Kundapur, Jun 20: Byndoor block youth Congress members held protest against denying minister's berth to four- time MLA K Gopala Poojary during state Cabinet reshuffle on Sunday. They said Poojary had ably led the Congress party by being Udupi district president.
The members laid a siege to Congress office in the morning on June 20 and shouted slogans against Congress government. They protested in front of Congress office, locked the office, tore the name board, set fire to a tire and expressed their anguish.
They insisted that Byndoor MLA K Gopala Poojary should be given a minister's post failing which they will hold violent protests laying a siege to the residence of Oscar Fernandes.
Youth congress president Subramanya Poojary, Yadthare grama panchayat president Ganesh Poojary, Saukhya group of company's director Riaz Ahmed and hundreds of well wishers participated in the protests. They set fire despite the police presence and protested.
MLA K Gopala Poojary speaking on the occasion said that he was the MLA even during the term of CM S M Krishna. “I have worked for the progress of the party since the time Congress was facing setback in Udupi, I have united the party by being the party district president. During last elections, when the party won just one seat, I have worked sincerely and helped for the success of the party,” said Poojary.
“I was promised minister's berth during next cabinet reshuffle when Vinay Kumar Sorake was the minister. The attitude of not keeping the promise has shocked me. I will decide future course of action after discussing with my workers. My well wishers should not take law into their hands for any reason”, he added.
