Madikeri, Jun 22: Coorg district police have succeeded in identifying a network which was cheating tourists and other people in the name of Coorg call girl website. DCIB police in Kushalnagar have arrested five suspects who were robbing men after luring them in the name of girls.
The arrested suspects are, N Venugopal(32) from Kushalnagar, C S Jayachandra (29) from Seventh Hosakote, Abdul Kareem (21) from Sakleshpur, S Sharath Kumar (27) from Seventh Hosakote and M U Mustafa(35) from Gummanakolli.
District SP Rajendra Prasad, speaking in a press conference gave details of the case and investigation. The police who went after call girls website after the news was published in the media, went through the mobile numbers mentioned in it. The police came to know that the SIMs were bought on the basis of fake names and addresses, and that a Madikeri resident was cheated by this network. The police got details of the victim and ensured that he registered a complaint in Shuntikoppa police station. DCIB police later swung into action and arrested five suspects.
As per the complainant, he phoned one of the mobile numbers mentioned in the website and inquired about call girl. The cheaters who said that they will be showing the call girl, asked the victim to come to Shuntikoppa. Later when three cheaters were accompanying the victim on Kushalnagar road, the victim who got scared of them said that he did not want the girl. At that juncture, the three suspects robbed Rs 11,500 from him and snatched his mobile, said SP Rajendra Prasad. “Only one suspect in the incident has been arrested and two other suspects are absconding. Investigations are under way to nab them,” said the SP.
“The group has no girl with them. The tourists and others were being robbed after luring them in the name of girls”, he said.
“Victims of cheating through the website are not coming forward to register complaints due to fear. It is suspected that the accused have cheated many people. Investigations will be conducted through telephone call lists,” he said.
SP warned tourists and people not to get carried away by such websites.
SP Rajendra Prasad said that their next target will be illegal home stays.
