Mangaluru, Jun 24: In what could be a major breakthrough, the Mangaluru city crime branch (CCB) police have reportedly arrested Naresh Shenoy, the prime accused in the murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.
Sources said that the special investigative team from Mangaluru arrested Shenoy in Kerala on the night of Thursday June 23.
Unconfirmed sources said that Shenoy has been brought to Mangaluru and is currently being interrogated. Another source said that he has already been produced in the court.
However, the arrest has not been officially confirmed. No details of the arrest or the exact place and time of the arrest are known yet. When contacted, police commissioner Chandra Sekhar denied the arrest and also said that Shenoy had not surrendered.
It may be mentioned here that on an earlier occasion, rumours were rife that Shenoy would be appearing in the court, but he did not.
RTI activist Vinayak Baliga was murdered on the morning of March 21. Ever since, Naresh Shenoy, leader of Yuva Brigade, has been absconding and lookout notices were also issued against him. He has been named prime accused in the chargesheet.
