Udupi, Jun 24: District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj directed authorities to fill all seats available under Right To Education (RTE) Act, during an ordinary meeting held at Zilla panchayat auditorium on Friday, June 24.
“In total, 1167 seats are available under RTE in the district this year out of which 1025 seats have been allotted. Out of them only 425 seats have been filled and the remaining seats have been rejected. As per instructions from the deputy director of public instructions, no seats should be rejected in the district or remain without allotment. Suitable action in this respect will be taken after discussing with education department officials and deputy commissioner,” he said.
MLA Gopala Poojary also informed the action will be taken against those schools which did not fill RTE seats.
Regarding poor quality of food served under Akshara Dasoha programme, the minister said that action should be taken against the concerned officials and the catering companies.
“Permanent measures will be taken to prevent accidents such as the one in Gangolli in the future,” he said.
“Necessary rules should be framed in the current academic year regarding ferrying school children by school managements. Ferrying children exceeding the limits should be prevented,” said MP Shobha Karandlaje.
“Low lying areas are filled with rain water and certain precautions are necessary there,” said member Janardhana Thonse. The minister directed the revenue officials to visit such places and take action. The minister also directed that tender processes should be completed soon and zilla panchayat should start the work after monsoon.
During the meeting, it was decided that Kindi dam maintenance will be handled by concerned gram panchayats after government approval.
A minute's silent prayer was observed for children who died in the recent accident at Trasi.
Three English medium and one Kannada medium students who passed in first class in the recent SSLC examination were felicitated on the occasion.
Zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu, vice president Sheela Shetty, local committee president Babu Shetty, Udaya Kotian, Shashikanth Padubidri, Vidhana Parishat members Kota Srinivasa Poojary, Pratap Chandra Shetty, CEO Priyanka Mary Francis, chief planning officer Srinivasa Rao, all Zilla panchayat members and officials were present.
