Mangaluru, Jun 25: Drugs are the greatest evil for our society. It not only affects individual but also the society. Citizens have to take responsibility to make Mangaluru and the world, free from Drugs. People give various reasons for drug abuse. “If you are depressed of not achieving the goal it is not the end of life.” says Dr Sanjeev M Patil KSPS Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dept of Crime and Traffic, Mangaluru who was the Chief Guest and addressed the students on the World Anti Drug Day programme organised by Vikas PU College, Mangaluru on 25 June 2016.
Dr .Sudeendra Prabhu MDS, Professor of Yenepoya University Mangaluru was the Guest of Honour expresses the effects of Drugs . Initially it starts from tobacco then to alcohol and then drugs. Teenagers are very curious or in pressure to take drugs ‘Why not me’. He compares the ancestors who were living healthy and achieved in their life for 100 years, but now in this fast paced world, we achieve whatever they achieved in their lifetime only within 10 years. He also highlighted about the effects of drugs which harms the brain. The brain gets adjusted to it, without it activities cannot be performed. The professional life will fail, you get isolated, family will ignore them and the person goes to depression and it leads to suicide. He suggested that Clinical Psychologists can assist them to overcome from this addiction. Students were made to take a pledge.
Krishna J Palemar Chairman of Vikas PU College presided the function, said that it is not only enough If we are not involved in the bad habits, we should also not allow others to imbibe it. We must take responsibility to get rid of the drugs from this society. In Vikas we organise various programmes to give awareness and to make this society a better one.
