Royal wedding: Maharaja of Mysuru Yaduveer ties the knot with Rajasthani princess

Mysuru, Jun 27 (Agencies): The iconic Amba Vilas Palace in Mysuru witnessed the royal wedding of Wodeyar family scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar today.

Boston-educated Yaduveer, 24, tied the knot with Trishika Kumari Singh at Kalyana Mantapa in the palace this morning during the auspicious Karkataka lagna.

Trishika is the daughter of Harshvardhan Singh and Maheshri Kumari from the Dungarpur royal family in Rajasthan.

Marriage rituals have been underway since July 25 with the stamp of royal traditions.

On the second day of the wedding ceremonies, 23-year-old Yaduveer performed specific rituals after an oil bath early morning, offering flowers to the goddess and Hindu god Ganesha at Chamundi cradle and prayed at Lakshmiramana temple, located within the palace precincts.

"Following the dynastic tradition, the maharaja also worshiped the holy feet (pada puja) of the rajaguru Abhinava Vagheesha Brahmatantra swamiji of Parakala mutt, who is supervising the ceremonies with palace head priest Dharmadhikari Janardhan Iyengar," royal family secretary M Lakshminarayana told IANS.

The rituals began with Yaduveer performing 'pada puja' to 'Rajaguru' Bramhatantra Parakala mutt seer Abhinava Vageesha Brahmatantra Swatantra Swami.

In a traditional ceremony on May 28 last year, Yaduveer was crowned as the titular head of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family. During Dasara he had ascended the golden throne to preside over the 'khasa (private) durbar', which is reminiscent of the bygone era.

About 1,000 invited guests witnessed the marriage ceremonies, officiated by a battery of priests. Among those invited include top politicians, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his Cabinet colleagues, diplomats from consulates of several countries, erstwhile royal families from across the country.

Wedding receptions will be held on June 28 and July 2 at palace in Mysuru and Bengaluru respectively.

Till June 29, visitors and tourists have been barred from entering the sprawling palace which has been white-washed and spruced up for the wedding and the reception, with special lighting to show its grandeur.

Yaduveer was engaged to Trishika much before his adoption as scion to royal family.

Pramoda Devi Wodeyar, widow of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, the last descendant of Wodeyar dynasty, formally adopted Yaduveer Gopal Raj Urs in February last year, as the couple had no children. After the adoption, he was rechristened as Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar.
Yaduveer, now the 27th "King" of Wodeyar dynasty has completed his BA in Economics and English at Boston University in the US and is the grandson of Princess Gayatri Devi, the eldest daughter of the last Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar.

The Wodeyar dynasty ruled the Kingdom of Mysuru from 1399 to 1947, the last king being Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, who ruled from 1940 until Indian independence in 1947 when he acceded his kingdom to the dominion of India, but continued as the Maharaja until India became a Republic in 1950.

People in old Mysuru region of Karnataka still revere Wodeyar rulers for their contribution to society that includes construction of KRS dam across river Cauvery and establishment of industries and educational institutions.

God bless the royal newly-wed couple with married bliss. very sad to read some foolish comments. It is God's wish that some are born into the royal family we are none to judge his will. They are the living example to our new generation that ones we were ruled by the Maharajas and how they lived in their palace. Our ancestors lived under their rule and prospered also some of our elders are still adoring their rule. Finally the last king late JC wadiyar gave up to join federal democracy of India. Now what progress independent India did to our living, in these 65years we have to question ourselves and act further. We are proud as Kannadigas to show the world famous Mysore Dassera festival and royal traditions still continued by them (which though our other states envy).

    Gireesh Bangalore & Anitha Fanir,
The Wodeyars are the pride of Karnataka (So are other rulers & freedom fighters) and we Kannadigas should be proud of it! The week long wedding celebrations is a part of the royal rituals inherited since ages. It's indeed commendable that the royal family has kept up the culture alive to date. We can also witness the royal traditions during the world famous Mysuru Dussera. The KRS dam, the first hydro electric power project of Asia & the Mysure University are great examples of their contributions to our state. After all, the royal family are spending out of their pocket to keep up the royal tradition unlike our "Democratic" govts. who feel pride in posing for the press when a scheme/project is launched out of tax payers money!!! Our so called "Democratic" govts. have deprived the royal family of the royal palace and they are fighting since years in the courts! And FYI, post India became a republic we no more address them as Kings. We still refer Jayachamaraja Wodeyar as the "Last King or Maharaja of Mysore" and his descendants as the heir to the royal throne but not Kings!

May god bless this couple with the best of Matrimonial bliss.

The maharajas of Mysore are kings of peoples heart. They dont need others Approval.

Having lived in Mysore for a decade you know how planned is the city which is iconic.
Wish he rises to be revered as his Great grandfather Nalvadi who pawned his personal wealth to build KRS much before Sir MV stepped in.

Mysore is a integral heritage of our state which other cities even though have history sans heritage.
Long live the peoples adored royal family.

I really don't understand why the media and others are giving such a hype to this marriage. Its just one more marriage where unnecessarily money is spent without any valuable purpose. Neither both of them are some patriots nor worked for development of society or not even married in a memorable and sensible way....!

It's an honor why we should feel jealous about it. There so many Kings, Queens, Prince & Princess all over the world and that in a democratic countries.
If that is the case why
Saif Ali Khan was anointed the tenth nawab of Pataudi latest?
