Bantwal, Jun 28: The condition of the service road at B C Road at the hub of the taluk headquarters is despicable. No one seems to be bothered about such a callous neglect towards maintenance of this road. Several of these potholes are so large that they send shivers down the spines of road users.

These pit-like potholes pose a challenge to not only two-wheelers but also heavy vehicles. Walking by the side of these fearful pot holes is a formidable task for even the most experienced persons. The road has so many pot holes and craters that searching for any asphalted stretches among them is a challenge that is daunting.

It is tragic that the concerned department is habituated to own the same level of lethargy and apathy towards maintaining the road year after year, although this is a situation one encounters every year.

A few months ago, an organization had staged protest demonstration to protest the wretched condition of this road. The National Highways Authority of India which woke up to the problem then, had arranged to asphalt this road. However, rain that has been lashing the region since the last some days has damaged the road and created new potholes. The department needs to sit up, take notice, and initiate action before the situation gives rise to dangerous incidents.

If these pot-holes are not filled up/got repaired early definitely some crocodiles from Nethravathi river will come and stay here and first of all they should catch hold of politicians and others who are lethargic to take timely action to repair this.

The narrow service roads on both sides of the flyovers everywhere seem to be totally neglected till large potholes are formed in the middle of the road. First of all there was no need for flyovers in the centre of towns like BC Road and Surathkal. It’s quite obvious why these multi-crore flyover projects were sanctioned throughout the length of the highway. The flyover at BC road has created congestion and spoiled the look of the town. Instead they should have widened the road and constructed a small roundabout at the junction, with speed breakers on both sides, allowing for smooth flow of traffic.

I guess that the concerned authority is trying their hand in rain water harvesting. :D
It is laughable when an emerging super power can't even build proper roads to last one season of the monsoon.

"I urge all engineers".. so engineers read replies on daijiworld and take note of this ? :)

on a serious note, apathy from both state and central govt is to be blamed. see the toll road from Surathkal to Mangalore! very poor engineering at many places!

both the govt have to come down heavily on poor engineering but how many of them are passionate enough to provide safe commute to its citizen?

Given some time it may lead up to Nethravathi River. What is happening and how the authorities take things easy. Action should be taken on responsible people. Timely action would have reduced cost of repairing.
Now they will fill with some red stones.

Shameful !! This is after paying all sorts of taxes and road tolls , why is the Govt collecting it if they can't provide basic infrastructure. If you ask Modi on the solution to the potholes problem in the country, he will tell you I will bring solution from unlimited abroad trips. He will also tell you Yoga has the power to heal anything & everything, so yoga will fix POTHOLES.
