Mangaluru, Jun 29: Promising Kannada poet and lecturer of the government PU college at Kavoor in the city, Ravishankar Vaddambettuy (44), passed away on account of ill health on Monday June 27. He was a resident of Bekur Kubanoor in Kasargod district.
Vaddambettu is survived by wife, a son, and a daughter.
Ravishankar Vaddambettu had drawn inspiration from veteran litterateur, Neerpaje Bheema Bhat, when he was working in government PU college at Kanyana. His first collection of poems, 'Mauna Muriyuva Samaya', was published in 2000. After that, several of his collections of poems and short poems were brought out. His short poems depict the ills of the society in a convincing manner. His death has delivered a huge blow to the world of literature.
Ravishankar had presided over the poets conference organized during Dakshina Kannada district level Sahitya Sammelan and also at the Bantwal taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan. His interest in Kannada language and literature was evident even during his college days, when he took interest in formation of literary club, Kannada club etc to encourage students to get involved with Kannada literature.
Vaddambettu, who had completed 20 years of service, was also sought after by his students. He fell ill about eight years back, after which his health had been showing a steady decline.
