Mangaluru: Sea erosion continues, six houses damaged in Ullal area

Mangaluru, Jun 29: Sea erosion has been continuing in Ullal area due to the heavy rains seen in the past one week.

Sea erosion has been experienced at Kotepura, Kodi, Mogaveerapatna, Subhashnagar, Mukkachery, New Uchila and Uchila Kote near here.

A total of 6 houses have been damaged in the area.

    India is blessed 7,500 Kms.. of clean Coastline ..
    Time for central/state Govt to Design build a clear Coastline..Beach..Marina..Reclaim land from seas like in Dubai and build the SKYLINE of Bombay in NARI MAN POINT ...ex:
    Dubai..Singapore ..japan..Korea..
    Build the coast with TETRA PODS...
    TO avoid Sea Erosion.
    Grow MANGROVES to preserve and culture Marine Eco system...
    Build it scientifically with expertise from all developed nations..
    First stop soil erosion with TETRA PODS..made of Concrete.
    these need the mold.cement.sand...steel.
    this can generate mega employment
    along with building 100,000 miles of EXPRESSWAYS.AUTOBAHN.. Highways.

    Every year same news and solution by all political parties are remain same. It will be better to put case against government in Supreme Court questioning Why all the Governments did not solve this problem?

    Every year loads /tons of boulders are being dumped spending crores of rupees. And the sea has swallowed them. Since the sea erosion has started now the Ministers, leaders and politicians will come along with their chelas and repeat the same thing what they have uttered for the last 20 years and they forget everything as soon as they step out of the area. Every year our Ministers assure and promise to complete the construction of sea wall work but they have miserably failed. Atleast the Dist. Administration can take action to allot house sites whose houses are collapsed and make arrangements to shift them else where. Why this unneccassry delay?

    Yes Tetrapods are right solution. My Civil Engineer friend from Udupi has been telling about it for several years. If there were tetrapods, this kind of erosion would have not occurred. even in Dubai shores near ports we can see this. Our governments is simply wasting money on rocks to contain erosion. Tetrapods has three legs and it will roll around the same area, Many of them will get locked and causes an obstacle to water while caving in. If we had invested on such concrete barrier...sea erosion would have been controlled to large extent. Non scientific methods yielded no gain so far and billions of wastage, of course politicians and contractors gained!!
    Thank you NM Mangalore for batting for this idea!! It may work out cheaper than transporting boulders since tetrapods can be manufactured on site by mass using readymix.

    It is not that whoever is the Government, they do not know about the right material\solution to curb the erosion.
    It is very simply - if they stop erosion occurring, they can not pocket the crores allotted for containing erosion that is EVERY YEAR!!!. tetra pods are used in Mumbai - Marine lines and many other places.
    There is no will - so there is no way they will look into the matter for sure.
    Crores in their pockets matters more than the loss of life\property and misery to the people living along the sea-shore.

    it doest take any engineers to suggest that Tetrapods is the best option. Fact of the matter is, agents and middle men are preventing this from happening because they might loose in on their yearly Income..

    The main reason for all this happening is we have encroached the sea and now sea is asking for its place. I agree that we can do some seawalls at the location of erosion but it is true that sea will start eroding places adjacent to protected areas. So the problem gets shifted to new place. So the best way is to relocate these people to somewhere else with all facilities and not effecting their life in any way.

    Placing Tetrapods along the shoreline is the solution.

    Its a tried and tested formula and the funny part is that self proclaimed 'SMART CITY' supporters /Mangaloreans are not even aware of this technology.

    Closer to home, these have already been placed in Marine Drive Mumbai.

    You are not aware of the massive funds being allocated to prevent sea erosion every year and for compensations.
    Why anyone will kill a goose laying golden eggs every year by putting tetrapods on the beaches?

    This is not sea erosion. This space looks sea area. the people occupied it. It seams stones and soil are put on sand and built the houses.

    Once the rainy season is over, when all the compensations have been shared and distributed, construct houses again without any foundation near the beach and get ready for next year!
    My advise is that in between stage some protests on the road to increase the compensation as per the inflation rate!

    Sea erosion is come under the purview of khadarsaab. He should address the problem of people who are residing nearby. When person enjoying swimming with other's also take care of such thing in near future.
