Udupi, Jun 30: "The effort being made by the government to place a ban on astrology by terming it as superstition is not justifiable. If a decision to ban astrology is taken, the end result might turn out to be something else," warned Paryaya Pejawar Math Swamiji, Sri Vishweshateertha.
He was delivering benedictory address after releasing two works, 'Jyotisha Sopanam' and 'Triyambakam Yajamahe' published by SMSP Samskrit Research Centre at a function held at Rajangana of Srikrishna Math on Wednesday June 29.
The Swamiji expressed the opinion that Vedanta, astrology, Ayurveda etc, which are of ancient origin, have their own hidden powers and potential. He felt that such things need to be conserved, duly noting that many a time, those who criticize astrology secretly meet experts seeking astrological guidance. He also said that many who preach about adopting Kannada as medium of education, send their children to English schools. He felt that in comparison to astrology, exploitation in fields like politics, education, and medical field is much more than in astrology.
Junior Swamiji of Pejavar Math, Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji, chairman of state legislative council, D H Shankaramurthy, registrar of Karnataka Sanskrit University, Dr Sidde Gowda, and several other scholars were present.
On this occasion, Gopika Sathish Maiya family, which has sponsored the book, was honoured. A book, 'Ayurveda Dravyaguna Sarasangraha' written by Dr Kediyoor Gururaj Bhagawath, and published by Yugapurusha Publication Kinnigoly, was also released by the Swamiji.
Dr H K Sureshacharya of the research centre welcomed. Dr Gurumurthy Acharya presented the programme. Dr Kadandale Ganapathi Bhat proposed vote of thanks.
