Udupi, Jul 4: An elderly couple at Pavanjegudde of Badaniduyur under Malpe police limits was threatened and robbed in the wee hours of Monday July 4.
The incident took place at the residence of Dr Devadas Bhat, where he lives with his wife.
It is learnt that at around 2.30 am, when the couple was asleep, two young men, aged about 25 years and masked, dug a hole into the terrace door, unlatched the door through the hole and gained entry into the house. Thereafter, they just sat inside the house.
When the couple got up at around 4.30 am, the robbers threatened them with knife demanded to hand over all their jewellery except the mangalsutra. The robbers looted the couple of ten gold coins weighing two grams each, two bangles weighing 30 grams, Rs 500 cash and also took away their Hyundai i10 car.
It is said that the youths were interacted with each other in Tulu but threatened the couple in Kannada.
SP Annamalai, DCIB inspector Jaishanker, inspector Srikanth, Malpe SI and DySP arrived at the spot and investigated.
A case has been registered in Malpe police station.
