Mangaluru, Jul 4: Eid Al Fitr feast will be celebrated on Wednesday July 6 in coastal districts.
“Dakshina Kannada Qazi Moulana Twaka Ahmed Musliyar has announced that Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 6 as the moon could not be sighted on Monday.” said S M Rashid, the treasurer of Central Juma Masjid in city.
The morning prayers on the Eid day will be held at 8.00 am at Idgah Masjid Light House Hill in city.
Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts will also celebrate Eid on the same day, reports said.
Eid celebrations involve a range of traditions, generally including a gathering of family and friends to eat and pray together.
Eid Al Fitr is one of the most important days in the Muslim calendar. Its significance is purely spiritual as the festival has no connection with any historical event.
It is the day Muslims thank Allah for the strength, the will and the endurance he gives them, especially during Ramadan which is regarded as one of the five pillars of Islam.
Ramadan is the period when Muslims fast every day from sunrise to sunset. It also includes the increased offering of prayers and recitation of Holy Quran.
