Mangaluru, Jul 6: A person has filed complaint in Kavoor police station here, alleging that some persons had swindled Rs 10.10 lac from him by promising to give him courier agency.
Sharan Naik (24) from Belmannu in Karkala taluk was enticed by an advertisement released through newspapers which invited applications from interested franchisees for opening courier agency named City Express. Naik called the concerned on the basis of advertisement. As he was told about the requirement to tender deposit. Naik claims to have paid two lac rupees at the courier agency's office at Shantinagar, Kavoor here. As he was asked thereafter to come to Bengaluru, he went there and paid further Rs 3.10 lac.
After waiting for letter allotting agency to him, Naik again contacted the concerned, also seeking official receipts for the money deposited with them. Over a period of time, he was asked to deposit different amounts through banks, totalling to Rs 10.10 lac before those people fled.
The police have registered a case against eight persons including M D Srinivas Rao from Andhra Pradesh who lives in Bengaluru, and Jayadeep Modi from Gujarat. It is said that these people had also released advertisements in different parts of the state and duped various people by seeking deposits from them.
