Chikkamagaluru, Jul 8: Reliable sources said that the police, who have taken into custody key accused in the case of kidnap of youth and suicide of deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Kallappa Handibag, Bajrang Dal leader Praveen Khandya, and interrogated him. Some sources claimed that five persons relating to the case have been taken into custody and Khandya faces about 27 cases in total registered during the last some year at different places.
Khandya, it is said, has close contact with an influential politician from the district and some police officers. It is said that Khandya is being led to various places to draw up sequence of events leading to the crime, mostly at night. Khandya is aware about Jeeva, who kidnapped Tejas, Abhiram, who released Tejas by giving him bail, and Naveen Shetty, who runs a dogs breeding centre at Bengaluru, it is learnt. The policemen are in the dark as yet about the whereabouts of money said to have been handed over to the DySP.

The criminal investigation department's team which went to Handigunda village in Raibagh taluk of Belagavi district on Thursday questioned the family members about links Kallapa Handibag had with different people. His family members said Kallappa was soft-spoken, honest, and innocent and claimed that higher officials had got him trapped. The officials were surprised to find that parents of the deceased DySP live in a dilapidated 30x30 feet house having broken tiles and cracked walls by the side of a shed meant for cattle.
