Mangaluru, Jul 9: As part of the investigation into the suicide of DySP M K Ganapati, additional director general of police (ADGP) of CID Pratap Reddy on Saturday July 9 visited the city to gather information.
Ganapati, who was DySP in the IGP (western range) office in Mangaluru, hanged himself in a lodge at Madkeri on July 7. Before commiting suicide, in a TV interview, he named minister K J George, Lokayukta IGP Pranab Mohanty and state intelligence ADGP A M Prasad as being responsible if anything happened to him.
Speaking to reporters after holding a meeting with CID IGP Hemant Nimbalkar and city police commissioner Chandra Sekhar at the IGP office in Mangaluru, Pratap Reddy said, "The case has already been transferred to the CID and we took up the probe yesterday (Friday July 8). The IGP of CID will be camping in Kodagu and investigation is progressing under his supervision.
"M K Ganapati was DySP in IGP office in Mangaluru and he also stayed here. Hence we have come here to gather information," he said.
Asked if the police have found any proofs or clues, he said, "We have found several leads. We are investigating the case from all angles."
Asked when the report was expected to be submitted, he declined to give a deadline. "We cannot say that now. All I can say is investigation is on."
On whether he would be visiting Ganapati's family, he said, "Yes, we will visit the family as per their convenience."
Regarding reports that Ganapati's father had denied giving a written complaint to the police, "CID will investigate everything. We will take everyone into consideration and investigate the case from all angles."
