Mangaluru: Lavita D'Souza elected president of diocesan YCS

Mangaluru, Jul 12: Lavita Rolita D'Souza of Permannur has been elected president of diocesan Young Catholic Students (YCS), Mangaluru.

The election was held during the annual general body meeting of the diocesan YCS, which aims at 'building a new society by self change with the methodology of awareness - reflection - action', on Sunday July 10 at Shantikiran, Bajjodi here.



The day was inaugurated by Fr Henry Sequeira, the chancellor of Mangaluru diocese, followed by ice-breaking session conducted by the YCS diocesan executive committee. Norbert Misquith delivered a talk on the role and responsibility of the office-bearers and leadership. Francis D’Cunha conducted training to the animators. After the holy Mass the election for the new committee was held. Sharon Pinto, the secretary presented the annual report. The newly-appointed director Fr Rupesh Madtha addressed the students about the vision of YCS in the diocese.

The concluding ceremony was presided over by Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, the bishop of Mangaluru. Melroy D'Souza, the outgoing president of YCS welcomed the gathering. The bishop was felicitated on his triple jubilee event. The bishop gave a call to the young students to instill values in themselves. Fr Ronald Prakash D’Souza, the former YCS/YSM director of Mangaluru diocese felicitated the bishop and thanked. The outgoing YCS national executive Roshan Melwyn Lobo and the new national YCS/YSM president Jesvita Princy Quadras were honoured, after which mementos and certificates of service for the outgoing central council members were presented.

Fr Rupesh Madtha, the director announced the names of the newly-elected council members of the year 2016-17 and led the oath-taking and handing-over ceremony.


The newly-elected office bearers of YCS Mangaluru diocese 2016-17 are:

Vice-president : Jastin Roel Fernandes, Venur
Lady vice-president : Arolin D'Souza, Beltangady
Secretary : Merita Albuquerque, Siddakatte
Joint secretary : Avit Premson Lobo, Mogarnad
Treasurer : Avil D'Souza, Shirthady
Reporter : Viola D’Souza, Bondel
Yuvathare representative : Mervin Pais, Borimar; Reema Veigas, Badyar
DTS : Nelson Pais, Uppinangady; Lavisha Andrade, Ferrar
RTS : Ashwin D’Souza, Madanthyar; Vidya Vinitha Veigas, Arva
National president : Jesvita Princy Quadras, Angelore.

Jesvita thanked the gathering. Glen Miranda and Joyline D'Silva compeered the programme. Diocesan animators Francis D’Cunha, Arun Fernandes, Ronald D'Silva, Rohan Pereira were present on this occasion. As many as 225 leaders from different parish YCS units and 20 animators participated.

Pravin Patrao, owner of Prasad Printers and Prasad Digitals, Mangaluru sponsored the event. The programme concluded with the YCS anthem and clap.
