Beltangady, Jul 13: Reportedly, BJP leader and taluk panchayat member representing Kokkada constituency, Laxminarayan T M, entered Ganesh Clinic run by Dr Ganesh Bhat at Kokkada Jodumarga, on Monday July 11 and attacked him, besides obstructing him from discharging his duties and posing life threat.
It is being claimed that Dr Ganesh Bhat was going to temple in his car on Monday morning, when the said taluk panchayat member suddenly reversed his car without checking for movement of vehicles on road. The doctor advised him to move his car after verifying whether the line is clear, as otherwise accidents are bound to happen. Angered by this incident, the taluk panhayat member allegedly gatecrashed into the clinic the same afternoon and hit the doctor, it is gathered.
The doctor stated in his complaint to the police that the accused suddenly came into his clinic when he was checking the health condition of a patient, scolded him by using choicest words and then attacked him in the temple and face regions besides kicking and posing life threat. Dharmasthala police have registered a case. The doctor, whose nose was injured in the incident, stands admitted into a hospital at Nelyady.
Dakshina Kannada district additional superintendent of police, Dr Vedamurthy, visited the doctor at the hospital. He collected details from him and promised of prompt action. Various organizations condemned the incident. Advocate and CPM taluk committee secretary, B M Bhat, said that attacking of medical professionals on duty is a serious crime. He demanded for the immediate arrest and action against the accused.
