Mangaluru, Jul 15: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim, said that the possibility of getting giraffes, zebras, and chimpanzees from central Africa with the help of donors is under consideration for being housed in Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological Park at Nisargadhama, Pilikula.

Addressing a press meet here on Thursday July 14, Ibrahim said that the animals might cost about Rs 1.75 crore, adding that some corporate companies have been approached for the purpose. Giraffes cost about Rs 75 lac while zebras and chimpanzees will cost Rs 50 lac each, he added.

Ibrahim explained that at present, Pilikula is home to about 1,200 animals, birds, and rodents belonging to 120 species. "An effort to exchange the animals is also on. When bringing animals from Africa, couples have to be brought and all the animals cannot be brought together. If import formalities go on smoothly, these animals will become additional attractions at Pilikula park in about six months," he explained.

He also said that a mega jackfruit Mela will be held on July 16 and 17 at Nisargadhama in association with various departments, organizations, and institutions. "Jackfruit growers from different parts of the state will participate, and 55 stalls are being provided free of cost. Mangalore University vice chancellor, K Byrappa, will inaugurate the Mela, while district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai, and MLAs, K Abhay Chandra Jain and Mohiuddin Bava, will take part as guests, he informed.

Dr Shivakumar Magada of Agricultural Research Station, director of Pilikula Biological Park, H Jayaprakash Bhandary, and director of regional science centre, Dr K V Rao, were among those who were present at the press conference.

Dc Saheb, We thank you for your initiative and efforts to develop Pilikula. One suggestion, Can you take initiative to develop Bondel-Padushedde -Mudushedde Road and introduce city buses through this road, so that we can reach Pilikula in 20-25 Minutes than the current circuit road Via Kulshekar -Vamanjoor. This will also helps residents of Padushedde - Mudushedde and low income groups to build houses.

Rendering a glimpse each morning on various web sites in India not only provides some of the home town news that we do not get from any other newspapers, but also enables us to learn so many view points of people who have their own valid suggestions, comments and even valid critticisms too. Its nice to know how each one has their own ideas and opinions frankly expressed for the benefit of various readers.

Enriching Pilikula Nisargadhama with various animal species especially from Africa is a very good idea indeed. Of course, it is going to be a costly venture but the advantages to be derived by importing specials from outside countries is a good investment indeed.

We have visited so many wild sanctuaries in so many parts of America with species from so many parts of the world that gives so much of new education to the people about different animals and their local adaptations. There is so much to learn from the foreign species migrated to our country and getting acclamatised with our climate, our food, our water and also acquaintance with our people and our species too.

Our generation will earn so much of new education by having foreign species on our soil so that we can experiment those species to be gradually cross-cultured with our own local species and see the gradual result. There is so much more to learn about foreign species and experiment them with so many unique experiences in our own country. It is a good investment in Education that will benefit out future generation a ten fold.
