Mangaluru International Airport to get taxiway extension

2400 metre runway, functional by December 2017

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 16: The Airports Authority of India has given its nod for the proposal to extend the parallel taxiway at the international airport here. This extension will cost around Rs 106 crore.

The construction of the first phase of the additional taxiway here had begun two years back. This taxiway is 1,200 metres long and 23 metres wide. This taxiway is under construction and will be completed in about two months from now.

The first phase of the work will cost Rs 40 crore, it is estimated. For the second phase, a 35-metre-deep gorge needs to be filled. The work on the second phase is likely to begin in January next year and completion is expected by the end of next year. The total length of new runway will be 2,400 metres.

Director of the airport, J T Radhakrishna, said that with the additional taxiway, aircrafts will be able to save time in the time required to reaching to and from the runway to their respective gates. He said that at present, each aircraft is required to wait for ten to fifteen minutes. At present, the airport handles 48 flights (24 incoming, 24 outgoing) per day, he added.

106 Crore is nothing. Just do not allow our Loving PM and his Gang members to go out of Delhi for one year. No need loan, No interest to pay, No black money, and can finish the project with out any delay.

    Dear All,

Keep up the good work, but concern here is why not a single international airline land on the mangalorean soil. People living in middle east are fedup of flying by airindia express which is be one of the most expensive flght to travel with worst service one will get by an airline. Without more expectations hope Kannur airport will be useful to mangaloean to fly by world class airlines. High time to welcome international airlines manganauro airport wake up..

Anything about Mangalore International Airport comes in the news people start criticizing and concerned about the safety. We should appreciate whatever airport authorities doing it is for us. They take all the precaution about the safety. Why only Mangalore airport you take any big airports in the world accident can happen. You cannot stop this other than God. If is God's wish why you are scared and question for his ability. If your death is written by God, he can take you in your sleep also. Please encourage our authorities, pray for them to complete this project on time.

When Japan can build runway on the sea why we take so much time just to extend the runway on the land. We are in 21st century still we are 40 yrs behind in technology as compared to our peers, we talk big, give big ideas but action Zero

There is no point in comparing India to Japan, dear. They are hardworking, un-corrupt, straight forward and decent people. They don't waste their time and energy in quarreling on petty things like religion for the food habits of the people.

Zameer...they are trying their best to make Mangalore Airport is safe. How many planes crashed at Mangalore except for Air India Express? At least try to laud their efforts other than criticising always. It is easy to criticise and ground reality is different. There are lot of other issues need to be taken care of and it will take bit some time. Rome was not built within a day. So, have patience. I land at Mangalore airport twice a year and all the time my landing was perfect as I prefer Jet Airways flight.
