Mangaluru, Jul 16: Leader of the Congress party in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday July 16 inaugurated the Blasius D'Souza Road, stretching from Karavali circle at Bendoorwell to Canara Bank circle at Balmatta.
He inaugurated the newly-named road by unveiling the signboard.
Speaking to reporters, Kharge replied to a question on the suicide of DySP Ganapati and said, "We have already discussed the matter in the Assembly. I am not in a position to speak on the issue. The chief minister has already clarified his stand, and the home minister too has given clear statements in the legislative session. Everyone knows what has taken place in the monsoon session. Hence, it is not right for me to comment on it. The CM has already said a thorough investigation will be done into the case and truth will come out. I have nothing more to add."
To a question on the Kalasa-Banduri project, he said, "During the tenure of the Indira Gandhi government, the three southern states were called and with their consent, an agreement was signed to provide 15 TMC of water. In the same way, if Prime Minister Modi calls the Goan CM and speaks to him, the issue will be resolved. This is for drinking water. For other purposes, let everyone follow the Tribunal's orders. It is in their (BJP's) hands to take a decision on the drinking water. Only the PM can resolve this dispute.
"We have already raised the issue in the Parliament, and even take a delegation to the centre led by chief minister Siddaramaiah. But we get only reply - 'you convince your leaders in the opposition Congress in Goa. The CM in Goa is from our party (BJP) itself'. What kind of a response is that? The one who is in power has to resolve the issue, instead of blaming others. Our struggle for drinking water will continue. It is really sad that the union government is neglecting the issue," he said.
KPCC working president Dinesh Gundu Rao, ministers Ramanath Rai and U T Khader, Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes and his wife Blossom, MLC Ivan D'Souza, MLA J R Lobo and other Congress leaders were present.
"No confusion over DySP Ganapati's death": D K Shivakumar
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Congress party convention at Town Hall later, energy minister D K Shivakumar, in response to a question on the suicide of DySP Ganapati, said, "There is no confusion or difference of opinion within the Congress regarding DySP Ganapati case. It is the BJP which is confused. We have already handed over the case to the CID and the truth will come out after investigation. BJP is politicising the DySP's death."
Responding to JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy's allegations that CM Siddaramaiah and minister K J George had taken 'suitcases' to the party high command, Shivakumar said, "Kumaraswamy should stop making allegations without any proof. If he has proof, let him produce it."
On power situation in the state, he said, "There was power shortage in the state, but after I took over the charge of the ministry, I have worked efficiently, and now we are producing adequate power. The ministry is functioning smoothly."
