MCA Doha Konkani drama, story writing competitions - Entries invited

Doha, Jul 17: Mangalore Cultural Association (MCA), Doha Qatar announces Konkani drama writing competition and Konkani story writing competition for this year. Year after year MCA has initiated new events in Qatar and this year too MCA will be conducting for the first time in Qatar Konkani drama writing and Konkani story writing competitions open to all Mangalurean Konkani speaking people residing in Qatar.

Interested participants are hereby invited to send in their entries by August 31.

Below are the rules of the competitions.

Rules for drama writing competition:

1. Participation is restricted to Mangalurean Konkani speaking people residing in Qatar in Kannada script only.
2. The script should be newly written and original. Work of translation is not accepted.
3. Dramas that are already staged will not be accepted for the contest.
4. Length of drama should be limited to 1.00 to 1.30 hours.
5. The plot and characters should not hurt religious or cultural sentiments.
6. Manuscript to be preferably typewritten or neatly handwritten on one side of A-4 size paper or book with appropriate spacing between words and lines. Pages have to be numbered.
7. Writer needs to keep a copy of the manuscript. The copy given for contest entry will not be returned to the writer.
8. The covering letter has to contain signature, date, and postal address, email id and telephone number.
9. MCA will reserve the right of the winning drama to first enact it during any of their annual events as decided by the managing committee.

Scripts to be scanned and submitted to mcaqatar@gmail.com or manually submitted to MCA committee members by August 31.

Rules for story writing competition:

1. This Competition is open to all Mangalurean Konkani speaking people residing in Qatar.
2. Script should be new, original, imaginative and self creative. Translation is not allowed.
3. The length should be within 6 – 10 pages of A4 size paper. Number of words could be in the range of 2000 – 3000.
4. The manuscript should be clearly hand written or type written on one side of the paper. Care should be taken towards clarity, readability, page marking, margin and appropriate gap between the lines.
5. The competition is restricted to Konkani language in Kannada script.
6. The manuscript sent for this competition should not be sent to other competitions for a period of 2 years. MCA holds the write to publish the short stories in their website.
7. It is advisable for the writer to keep a copy of the manuscript for his/her own reference. Request for the copy of the script or to send back the original script would not be entertained for any reasons.
8. The decision of the judges is final and no communication whatsoever by phone calls, email, sms and other modes will be entertained. No form of discussion is permitted in this respect.
9. The title of the story, writers name, address, contact numbers and email address should be attached in a separate sheet of paper.

Scripts to be scanned and submitted to mcaqatar@gmail.com or manually submitted to MCA committee members by August 31.

One winner each in both categories will receive cash prize of Rs 10,000.

The results will be announced on September 30 during the GVOM-5 Qatar Semifinals which will be held at the Regency Halls Qatar.
