Mangaluru, Jul 17: The city's top food reviewing body, The 3 Hungry Men on Sunday July 17 created history by organising India's first-ever sizzler eating competition 'Man vs Sizzler' at Kobe Sizzlers in Balmatta here. The event also marked the 5th anniversary of The 3 Hungry Men.
It is also noteworthy that this was only the second-ever sizzler eating competition in the world (as per online records). In the championship which saw the participation of 30 teams with two persons in each team, Bharath and Rachana emerged winners as they gobbled their steaming hot sizzler in just under four minutes.
With this, the winners set an all-India sizzler eating record, clocking an incredible 3 minutes and 53 seconds. And as the top prize, they will now get to munch on Kobe sizzlers for 30 days and enjoy 30 free Uber rides.
The hosts of the event Nikhil Pai and Colin D'Souza along with the proprietors of Kobe Sizzlers Haris Ebrahim, Kiran and Waseem distributed the prizes to the winners.
With overwhelming joy, winner Bharath said that they had come to collect the participation voucher on behalf of a friend and ended up winning the prize, without even intending to participate at first. "I am really surprised by the fact that I could eat the hot sizzler faster than the other participants. I thank Rachana and Rohith for helping me out. I am a hogger at home and even in the friends' circle. But this was purely unexpected."
Nikhil Pai thanked Kobe Sizzlers for helping The 3 Hungry Men organise the event. "It is our fifth anniversary and we chose Kobe Sizzlers because we like everything here. Today we have created history by organising the first-ever sizzler eating competition in India and the second in the world. There are are no other records of such a competition as this."
Haris, one of the proprietors of Kobe Sizzlers said that the response to the competition was enormous as the tickets were sold out within 48 hours. "Thanks to Colin and Nikhil for organizing it so wonderfully. We would like to associate with them even in the future," he said.
Representative from Uber cabs Ankur announced that every participant would get a free Uber ride in the city.
Depending on the choice of the participants, there were vegetarian and non-vegetarian sizzlers available. A team had to register by paying a sum of Rs 300, and in turn, each team received a Kobe Sizzler gift voucher worth Rs 300, which made the competition technically free.
The final stage of the event was also webcast live in The 3 Hungry Men Facebook page.
The 3 Hungry Men is Mangaluru's first food reviewing body and is also among the top food bloggers' list of India by Food Bloggers Association, India. They are also the pioneers of competitive eating events in Mangaluru. Entries were based on first-come-first-serve. The competition was only open to ages 18 and above.
