Mangaluru, Jul 19: "The state government will give a free cylinder to every household in urban areas in the state, in addition to the single subsidized cylinder," said U T Khader, minster for food and civil supplies.
Addressing media persons here on Tuesday July 19, he said, "Normally, most households switch to kerosine till the end of the month once the cylinder becomes empty. Hence, to avoid that, households in the urban areas will get an additional cylinder every month. In rural areas, if they do not require the cylinder they can opt for two solar lights."
Drinking water purification units in Mangaluru constituency
The minister also said that drinking water purification units will be set up in every village of the Mangaluru constituency with a population of 1,000. "Every household can buy water by paying Rs 10 for 20 litres.
"Every household will be given 20 litres per day just for drinking purpose. A large purification unit will cost Rs 10 lac and a moderate-sized unit will be cost Rs 7.5 lac. This project will be implemented under public private partnership (PPP) model, with KRIDL being the private player which will implement the project. A few of the units will be completed soon and will start dispensing purified water within a month.
Rs 8 crore for beach development
Khader further said that various various beaches in the constituency will be developed under the state tourism development scheme. "Rs 3,33,33,000, Rs 1,89,00,000 and Rs 3,00,00,051 have been allotted to Someshwar, Ullal and Talapady beaches. This sum will be utilized to develop the connecting roads, pedestrian seating, walkway, highmast lights, resting sheds, sign boards, solid waste bins etc," he said.
He also said that the proposed Thokkottu-Melkar national highway will be widened and developed by the state government and the various junctions along the stretch will also be developed.
