Mangaluru, Jul 20: Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada A B Ibrahim has instructed the officials to seize Ola, Uber and other cabs operating in the city with immediate effect as they have still not submitted their documents to seek permission as per the state government's guidelines.

Addressing officials from various departments in his office here on Wednesday July 20, Ibrahim said, "Even after giving them a deadline to submit the documents the taxi services have not done it and hence they cannot operate in the city from tomorrow (Thursday July 21). If they continue to operate, the city police must seize their vehicles."

He also instructed the traffic ACP Tilak Chandra to take stern action against these vehicles if they were found to be operating in the city.

This suggestion was supported by a rickshaw driver who brought to the DC's notice that Jugul cabs in Mallikatte, which was operating in the city has been shut down by the MCC standing committee led by Kavitha Sanil as it did not possess trade licence.

Shifting of bus stops at various junctions

Social activist Hanumanth Kamath alleged that due to the rampage of city buses, traffic was getting blocked at various junctions. "The city buses, mostly the private ones, stop on the road at key junctions and cause traffic jam. Hence shifting the bus stops away from the junction will easy the traffic," he opined

To this suggestion, the DC instructed the MCC and traffic police officials to shift the bus stops from the major junctions of the city.

ADC Kumar, SP Bhushan Borase and others were present in the meeting.

I also strongly support UBER and OLA TAXI operators for providing a cheap intra-city travel in this Port City of Karnataka.

As your Agency has done in Bangalore City ( which is the State Capital also) and in Pune City please comply with the Legal requirements and help common public to serve in this City also.

Awaiting a positive news of smooth resumption of UBER and OLA TAXI service here in MANGALORE very soon.

It looks like this DC does not like the people of Mangalore to benefit the excellent and very competitive transport service provided by OLA and Uber to the people. These two companies have been successfully providing their services in Bangalore and also in many cosmopolitan and metropolitan cities in other states of India and people in general are benefited happy. If these two companies have proper papers to operate in Bangalore and other major cities with pan India presence, then those papers and/or documents are not acceptable to Mangalore DC? Probably there is a pressure from the union representatives of local taxi / Rickshaw association to obstruct the operation of OLA and Uber in Mangalore and thereby deny the general public of Mangalore an otherwise available excellent service and opportunity of OLA and Uber? What a shame? Some of the people in Mangalore may not be aware how these private taxis at Mangalore Airport loot the arrival passengers by charging exorbitant amounts??? If Ola and Uber are allowed to operate here, then the passengers will probably pay only 50% of what these private taxis are charging! OLA and Ubers are not allowed to pick up passengers from the Airport by the authorities, probably in connivance with the Private taxi union leaders? Why this protection policy? Let there be competition from OLA and Uber and let the people of Dakshina Kannada benefit from their service without any interference from the concerned authorities.

Probably Uber and Ola start paying bribe.. if they want to survive..Its just a ball game, police could not solve the private bus mafia, school transport issue, stupid road transport system at heart of Mangalore city. Now they want to stop something which is working properly safe and economic mode of transport. God only save sincere people and services!

All good things come to an end! I hope not with UBER and OLA cabs. These are the best mode of transport in Mangalore city. No hassles, just download the APP, request and lo, a chauffeur driven AC car is at your door step. It is indeed SAD if the legal paper work has not been submitted yet by such big renowned MNC/ Only hope it is not politically motivated issue by locals to stop the cheapest and best transport in our smart city as it would be a SHAM itself for progress We have been using UBER and Ola since in town Can you imagine it cost my hubby only I Rs. 157 to go to Bajpe Intl. Airport from our home in Urwa Stores. Do we need so many cars in town to create havoc in city when there is such an awesome transport facility. So Uber and OLa - request you to complete the formalities at the earliest and be at the beck and call of people like us. It is better to have you running this facility than keep a driver and a car at home. When this group is successful in USA and other smart cities of India, why not in Mangalore??!!

In India to prevent activities of business that have an adverse effect on competition in India The Competition Act was established on 2003.The Competition Act, 2003, as amended by the Competition (Amendment) Act, 2007, says, It is the duty of the Commission to eliminate practices having adverse effect on competition, promote and sustain competition, protect the interests of consumers and ensure freedom of trade in the markets of India. The Commission is also required to create public awareness and impart training on competition issue.

    Like Ola or Uber company's:
“Their play book globally is the same: First break the law—then use billions of dollars of funding to kill the competition through unrealistic and predatory pricing to consumers and massive incentives to drivers. Then if regulators react to any violation of laws, create huge social media campaigns using the consumer base created through subsidized pricing to put pressure on regulators to change the law”.

It is the duty of the government to ensure the good provision, equal rights in practicing the trade, equal justice.

The worst thing we inherited from the British is paper work. For everything an application has to be written. No doubt we are still languishing as a third world country.

It is fine that commissioner of Dakshina Kannada A B Ibrahim has instructed the officials to seize Ola, Uber and other cabs operating in the city with immediate effect as they have still not submitted their documents to seek permission as per the state government's guidelines. I do agree for that but what about nuisance, havoc created by the vehicles such as city buses, auto rickshaws and private buses holding proper documents. They don’t have any manners where to stop, where not to stop, how to follow the traffic rules etc.
For example the Auto drivers and city buses stop suddenly without giving any indicator or signal in the middle of the road just for the sake of one passenger causing traffic block/snarl and inconvenience to the fellow vehicle drivers/owners. This practice should be curbed and stopped immediately. They should be asked to park or stop in their designated stops/stands only. If they do so, many casualties, accidents can be averted.
Besides they should be provided separate bays, stands and ask them to pick and the passengers from that point only. Any violators should be severely dealt with without any consideration or sympathy. If the traffic authorities are strict in implementing this rule, definitely traffic blocks, jams can be minimized to great extent. But one thing officials or any employee of the said department should not be after Rs 100/=Rs 200/= as bribe when they catch the violators. If they are hungry for that definitely department (RTO) cannot bring the traffic problem under control.
One more incident I have seen is in P.V.S.circle in the night where so many private Luxury buses of various destinations parked haphazardly blocking the complete road causing innumerable inconvenience not only to the general public but also to the traffic movement for other vehicles. No one to observe this scene because it is in the night. Because of the Department’s leniency, lethargy the said private bus pliers/drivers are taking so much of advantage creating an artificial traffic block/jam. Passing through that area in the night during that period is really nightmare or herculean task. Why the concerned department, authorities cannot take any action on this and shift the bus standout side of the city? This will definitely help and easy the traffic jam but some officials might lose their commission/bribe if they do so.
I earnestly request the concerned departments, authorities to take some concrete steps to address these problems at the earliest possible at least in the interest of easing the traffic and to sort out the problems faced by the general public.
