Udupi, Jul 21: Police from Manipal station arrested a Nigerian citizen who stayed put in Manipal near here even after expiry of validity period of his Indian visa. He was taken into custody Tuesday July 19 and produced in the court the next day.
Augustine Junior Unadike, who hails from Nigeria, had entered India through Mumbai airport on August 24, 2011. He was pursuing B Pharma degree course in the pharmaceutical science department of Manipal University. Validity of his visa expired on July 25, 2014. Even his passport expired on October 22, 2015, it is gathered.
Augustine continued to stay put at Manipal beyond the permitted period. He had not bothered to file application and documents to the office of the foreigners regional registration to extend his stay. He was arrested on charges of illegally violating visa and passport rules and regulations and staying unauthorizedly in India.
The court has remanded him to judicial custody till August 3.
