Kalaburagi, Jul 22: The spate of suicides by officers in the state is continuing. In yet another case, a policeman in Sultanpur, Kalaburagi allegedly hanged himself early morning on Friday July 22.
Annarao Saibanna Gamaga (48) was found hanging in the KSRP quarters in Sultanpur.
He served as head constable in Kalaburagi Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB).
Sources said that he committed suicide due to some issue related to transfer.
Gamaga had joined the KSRP in 1993 and just over a year ago, he was posted as head constable of IRB. Due to illness, he had requested for a transfer and for this purpose he had been to Bengaluru, sources said. It is alleged that higher officials had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lac from him.
This is the fifth case of suicide or attempted suicide by officers this month. On July 5, Chikkamagaluru sub-division DySP Kallappa Handibag committed suicide following allegations of kidnapping. DySP Ganapati of Mangaluru committed suicide two days later on July 7 in Madikeri, followed by attempted suicide by sub-inspector Rupa Tambad in Vijayanagar police station and attempted suicide by Hassan assistant commissioner E Vijaya on July 21.
