Mangalore: 'BJP's Protest against Railway is Political Gimmick'

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (MM/RD)

Mangalore, Nov 26: The protest by BJP to introduce Mangalore-Bangalore passenger train is nothing but political gimmick, said Ramanath Rai, president of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC).

Speaking at a press conference held at Congress office on Monday November 26, he said that the passenger train between Mangalore-Bangalore was introduced when T M A Pai was the union minister. Later the train services were discontinued owing to broad gauge conversion, he added.

"The NDA-led union government headed by BJP government ruled the country for 6 years. There was BJP MP in Mangalore too. Why didn’t they put any effort to introduce passenger train between the city and state capital then," he questioned.

Mangalore MP Sadananda Gowda seems not raising the local railway issue during the parliamentary sessions. Instead, he has been playing gimmicks in Mangalore. Although, he knows that the train services will be introduced in the month of December, he has organized protest at the railway station. This is nothing but election stunt, Rai opined.

Rai also thanked Congress high command, Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, union railway minister Laloo Prasad Yadav, coastal district leaders Veerappa Moily, Oscar Fernandes and Janardhan Poojary for their efforts towards this cause.

This may be a political gimmick or anything we may understand. I am happy to see people joining the hunger strike for a noble cause rarely heard in mangalore. If people of various sections of society are coming together to fight for a noble cause everybody should support the leader or any particular party rather than speak ill about others.

Instead of criticizing, Mr. Ramanath Rai you should join the protest for the Train service to start ASAP. All politicians made enough wealth & also they have their own buses plying between these two cities, so it's the plight of common man who is bothered much than these stupid politicians, also if train starts these politicians are the biggest loosers. So don't make it a issue, join with the agitators for the fast execution of the service.

People can understand from this coment of Mr.Rai, that the MPs, MLAs from our dist.don't want any development. Fight with each other, not for the devlopment but for popularity when the election time comes. All have slept/enjoyed the power and made required wealth for thier generations by using the development funds. Now try to pull the credit in the name of train issue. Its 16 yrs for guage conevrsion..!!! shocking. I think the people of DK should get united and teach all these selfish dictators of our dist. I think Mr. Sadanada Gowda also need a break as he is good for nothing than running behind the 5 day CM Mr.Yeddy, than attending Loksabha to raise the DK issues.

Congress party & it's leaders don't have any moral right to speak about the railway issue since they didn't do anything for the district from so many decades as they were ruling the District, State & Country for decades. Instead of criticizing others better to keep the mouth shut. They only divided the people for their votebank & still they are doing the same. I remember how much difficulty i faced when i was working in Bangalore. All people should join the protest till the train service introduced & the public should get benefited.

We the people of Coastal Karnataka want the development and we are not bothered who is playing Gimick. Instead of pointing out at others first have a look what you have done to the people of coastal Karnataka and what could you have done. After Independence nearly for 50 years our country was ruled by the Congress. What was the contribution made. Most of years it was neglected. Mangalore Railway Station was in place before Independence.

After Independence Konkan Railway project was lying in the files. It took many years for the project to materliaze. If the effort of George Fernandes and Madhudanvate was not there the Konkan Railway would have still been buried in the files. Now the broad gauge is in place, Trial runs are completed, Congress is at the centre, I feel instead of blaming you can use your good office and set a specific date for the passenger service to commence from Mangalore to Bangalore so that common man is benefited

Instead of making comments mr. ramanath rai' s congress party should do something regarding the long standing issue so that the people are benefitted. Well the politicians after the elections are interested to make money by hook or crook who is bothered about the welfare of the people.
