Kasargod: Youth accidentally drowns in pond

Kasargod, Aug 6: A youth from Galimukha village, who had come to Kubdaje near Manjeshwar in the district to attend to wood cutting work accidentally drowned in a pond there. The tragedy occurred on Thursday August 4. The unfortunate youth was Muhammed Rashid, 26, son of Abdulla from Saroli in Galimukha.

Rashid and three others had arrived at Kurumujjikatte near Kumbdaje on Thursday morning for cutting down trees. During lunch hour in the afternoon, all of them went to a nearby pond to take bath and have lunch.

Rashid, who was the first to venture into the pond, lost his balance and drowned in the pond. The others could not help him as none of them knew how to swim. The locals, who came there on hearing their shouts for help scouted the pond for half an hour and found Muhammed Rashid. He was in serious condition and died when being taken to a hospital in the town, it is gathered.

Postmortem was conducted at the mortuary of the general hospital here.
