Sullia, Sep 22: An employee of Lord Subrahmanyeshwara temple at Subrahmanya in the taluk was held on Wednesday September 21 on the allegation of pocketing money belonging to the temple during the counting operation. He has been identified as Halkure Gowda.
On September 15, money collected through donation boxes was counted at the Hundi Hall of the temple. One of the temple employees, Halkure Gowda, was present there. Some people had grown suspicious about his movements. Based on suspicion, footage of the CCTV camera fixed in the room was checked. It was found that Halkure Gowda had picked currency notes and put them into his pocket four times during the counting operation.
As the crime was prima facie established, the chief executive officer of the temple filed complaint with Subrahmanya police station. Subrahmanya police, who registered a case, took Gowda into custody. During his questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to his guilt and gave information that money so stolen was kept in his house. The police thereafter visited his house and collected stolen cash. He was produced in the court whereupon he was remanded to judicial custody.
