France welcomes Modi's statement on Paris accord


New Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS): France has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that India will ratify the Paris Agreement on October 2, Mahatma Gandhis birthday.

In a statement, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development spokesperson said: "India's commitment to the fight against climate change is decisive to the implementation of the Paris Agreement."

Prime Minister Modi, in a speech in Kozhikode, Kerala, on Saturday announced that India would ratify the 2015 Paris agreement on October 2.

India had submitted its 'Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) to the UN body on October 1 last year.

The Climate Agreement was adopted by 195 countries in Paris last year.
