Udupi, Oct 4: The office of the Superintendent of police organized a programme where they returned stolen goods recovered by the police department to their true owners at tennis hall near DAR office, Chandu Maidan on Monday, October 3.
These recovered articles were in respect of the theft cases reported for the period from January 1, 2016 to June 30, 2016.
Udupi SP K T Balakrishna handed over the recovered items to their true owners on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, SP said, “A total of 64 cases were registered regarding theft of cash, ornaments, vehicles, mobiles, copper idols etc. The recovered items were put on exhibition. These cases were registered in 16 different police stations. The police department has recovered 48.18 percent of assets in just six months.”
“Relating to the cases of Udupi subdivision, the department has recovered eight bikes, an Indica car, a battery, two iPads, two mobiles, eight gold rings, three children’s rings, 37 earrings, three gold bangles, a pearl necklace (2 line), a pearl long chain with lakshmi pendant, two gold patali bangle, a pair of hollow gold bangle, five gold and a concatenated bangle, two silver girdles, two silver lamp plates, a small silver kunkum box, a camera, a copper boiler, a aluminium boiler, half H P pump and cash Rs 25,000 and total Rs 20,25,020 were recovered by police during this period.” he added.
“In the case of Kundapur subdivision, cash of Rs 150 and total worth Rs 16,53,000 were recovered. The recovered items included a motor bike, a layland lorry, a gold Karimani, two gold bangle, eight gold finger rings, two gold chains, a gold pendant, a gold necklace, two ear-drops, three gold earrings, a gold wristlet, a gold mati, a gold bracelet, two nose rings, a laptop, an LCD TV, 25 gram of gold nuggets, 400 grams of silver nuggets and four quintal of betel nuts.” SP said.
“The police personnel of Karkala subdivision succeeded in recovering Rs 4,700 and items worth Rs 12,23,200 of asset. The department has recovered two motor bikes, a pick-up van, 20 kg of black pepper, 50 kg of betel nut, a copper boiler, five fans, a pearl and a coral chain, four pairs of ear studs, a gold medal, a pair of anklet bracelet, two finger rings, five chains, three bangles, two gold necklace, a nose ring, two gold karimani and five panchaloha idols.” he said.
Total assets of Rs 1,01,70,692 were stolen and worth Rs 49,01,220 of property was identified. Items worth Rs 28,97,720 of goods were handed over to their respective owners.
Shruthi Lokesh from Karkala rural station, Sitaram Shetty, Suma Madhu Shetty and others received their stolen assets on the occasion.
Karkala ASP Sumana, ASP Vishnuvardhan, DYSP Udupi Kumarswami and others were present.
