Bengaluru: Leasing hospital to Dr B R Shetty - cabinet gives conditional clearance

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Oct 27: The state cabinet, at its meeting on Wednesday October 26, gave its nod for handing over the government hospital along with 3.88 acres of land on which it stands, to BRS Health Research Institute Pvt Ltd owned by Dr B R Shetty. After the cabinet meeting, minister, T B Jayachandra, told the media persons that the cabinet decided to give the hospital on lease with the condition to provide treatment to patients at charges as may be applicable in government hospitals.

The current hospital building would be razed to the ground and in its place, a women and children's hospital with 200 beds, and a 400-bed Centre of Excellence would be constructed. The proposal to hand over the hospital to Dr Shetty had been approved long back by the concerned, but in view of opposition to the same from various quarters, the government has decided to impose certain conditions.

To a question as to whether giving the public property to individuals will jeopardise the interests of common people, the minister clarified that the land is being given on lease, and that Dr B R Shetty wants to build the hospital in memory of his father. He said that this decision of the government is backed by its earnest desire to provide good quality health service. "This move has also boosted private participation in health services," he pointed out.

Dr. BRS, who holds a very high reputation as a successful businessman and a person of integrity.

With vast resources at his disposal, his organisation will certainly be in a position to carry on the mission of providing treatment to the poor and underprivileged sections of society at affordable rates.

Hope the Government makes the terms & conditions of the lease agreement public, in the interests of transparency and good faith.

This is a prelude to Leasing government hospitals to private/commercial medical college owners. Just wait and see what happens to Wenlock hospital of Mangalore and other Govt. hospitals in Karnataka. People are just waiting to grab them. I still do not understand why the government is not converting the Wenlock hospital Mangalore or the Udipi hospital to Government Medical College. In all the other districts of the state the District hospitals are converted to Medical College and local students are getting benefited. But in Mangalore and Udipi the local people are deprived. We have political ,religious, and other organisation who only fight between themselves for silly reason but do not fight for the right of local people who really deserve it. The lobbyist and private educational institution sharks are fooling the people. All political parties and leaders are involved in this for their personal benefit

Dr. B.R. Shetty is well known for his very fair deals to the patients and the public at large.

Dr. Shetty will no doubt build A SUPER SPECIALTY HOSPITAL but he will also ensure that super specialists will be employed to ensure that the right and proper treatment is provided.

Hey friends, I am a part of an N.G.O, and I believe a hospital can be upgraded with donors and mere 200 crore investment is not only REASON behind this. And to me ifthe upcoming super speciality hospital, provides facilities at Current Govt. Hospitals rates to at least for the 50 beds occupants , and let's the Mahatma Gandhi Model Higher Primary school, to continue ( which is a 131 year old Govt School, just next to the proposed 400 bed hospital in Udupi.
My Request to Dr.B.R.S. is , please do not crush a good old Govt School, which can bring in best citizens of future. And if possible, please do help us in restore and reconstruction of the same.
I=You You I= We. Building Humanity and Environment is our RESPONSIBLITY and Business should not be an excuse .

Ambani & Adani invested on Modi's 2014 election. 20K Cr GSPSC loot is funded Modi's Acche Din for 2014. Now ONGC akka tax payers will pay Modis GSPSC scam. This deal is very suspicious. Congi govt. must disclose the lease deed & Shetty should tell the people at what extent he's going to give free treatment to poor.

Dear Roshan, I think you haven’t gone thoroughly through the news article. There is nowhere mentioned as free treatment to poor people but stated as “Cabinet decided to give the hospital on lease with the condition to provide treatment to patients at charges as may be applicable in government hospitals” but nowhere put conditions to display price list for each and every treatment. Government has given free given free hand to Mr. Shetty to decide the treatment cost. NO ONE in this world given anything free. Money can buy everything expect life. This is universal truth.
