'Drug lab' unearthed in IAF officer's home

Bengaluru, Oct 29 (DHNS): The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raided the house of a wing commander in the Indian Air Force (IAF) in Secunderabad on Thursday, and unearthed a lab where the banned drug Amphetamine was suspected to be manufactured.

The raid was carried out on the basis of information given by G Rajasekhar Reddy, the IAF wing commander, who was arrested earlier in October.

During the interrogation, Reddy reportedly told the NCB sleuths about the lab he had set up in his rented house at Vidyapuri. The lab was traced to the kitchen. Banned drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore were also seized in the raid, NCB officials said.

The raid comes more than three weeks after the NCB arrested three people — Bengaluru-based research scientist Venkata Rama Rao, his wife Preethi and an associate named Ravi Shankar Rao — for being part of an international drug racket.

The scientist and his accomplice were caught in Hyderabad while transporting 231 kg of Amphetamine to Bengaluru.

The scientist’s wife was arrested from a rented house in Hebbagodi on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The NCB team reportedly seized Rs 1.23 crore in cash and 30 grams of Amphetamine from her. Reddy is believed to the kingpin of the racket.
