Bengaluru, Nov 1: In the ranking list of states which is prepared on the basis of 'Ease of doing business' for the year 2016, Karnataka has fared poorly as compared to last year, going down to 13th spot from last year's ninth. This list was released by union minister for commerce and industry, Nirmala Sitharaman, on Monday October 31.
The list is prepared jointly by the union department of industrial policy and promotion and World Bank. They follow a system of awarding points based on detailed study. It is gathered that Karnataka has secured better points under labour, inspection reforms, tax, and environment.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana top the list with 98.78 percent score followed by Gujarat in third spot. Gujarat was in No.1 spot in the year 2015. Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Jharkhand have occupied places from four to seven in that order. Rajasthan which is placed eighth, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Odisha and Punjab, which follow Rajasthan, have fared better than Karnataka and occupied places No. 8 to 12.
Haryana, which was placed at No. 14 last year, Telangana that was at 13, Uttarakhand that was at 23rd spot, and Punjab placed 16 last year, have overtaken Karnataka this time. Uttar Pradesh too has slipped from tenth position to 14.
It is gathered that Karnataka lost points heavily under construction permits although the government officials claim that they have made the approvals easier with most of them being given online.
