ATMs go dry soon after opening, queues continue at banks

New Delhi, Nov 11 (PTI): Long queues were witnessed at banks and ATMs, which opened after two days, as people rushed to get new banknotes in lieu of their old defunct bills.

Many ATMs ran out of cash in couple of hours as there were heavy rush to withdraw lower denomination currency. Most of the machines were equipped to tender Rs 100 notes, while some were still not working.

Banks are saying that they are trying to recalibrate their machine for higher denomination notes, it will take some days before they start tendering new high security Rs 500 and 2000 notes which is expected to ease pressure.

However, to ensure customer convenience, banks have been asked to provide all cash withdrawal transactions at their ATMs free of cost till 30 December. Banks across country are witnessing heavy rush on the second day as people gathered to get new banknotes in exchange of old bills.

After the government scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, banks were shut on Wednesday, and ATMs were supposed to be out of service for re calibration on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the financial capital of the country, shutters of ATMs of State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda, Yes Bank, Dena Bank were down in many parts. ATMs of many banks reported running dry.

From today onwards, customers are allowed to withdraw up to Rs 2,000 per day from ATMs till November 18. The withdrawal limit will be raised to Rs 4,000 per day per card from November 19, 2016.

In the two days when the ATMs were out of service, the banks said they will re-configure their ATMs to dispense Rs 100 and Rs 50 notes.

Miserable time for the common man, no problem for people with black money and politicians. Modi had announced this scrapping of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 in Gujarat about six months back.
    ATM: OUT OF SERVICE
    BANK: OUT OF CASH
    PUBLIC: OUT OF CONTROL
    MODI: OUT OF COUNTRY
What about the Rs.15 lakhs promised by PM Modi before the election.

Demonetiziation is very good and courageous decision by PM.But I'm afraid that there may be problems in operating it in practice .the following are the concerns
1 the new 2000 notes dispension us a problem bcoz the size and thickness of New 2000 notes is different so ATM is already customised
to old notes which is thick
2 atms may have been programmed yo dispense certain number of notes of some fixed denominations like 500 1000 and 100 now they have to change that
The people in general welcome the move but they cannot be put into hardships many more days
4 the gullible senior citizens disabled farmers small petty businessman fisherman volley workers may face problems
Unorganized secto will suffer a lot
IesVitMoney supply in the economy will be riskymor therefore interest rates will become cheaper but economic opportunities may be less people may not go for risky activities since extra earnings leads more taxes

I was wondering are we living in Syria, Venezuela or Libya?
Only in these places where governments don't have power to serve their people this type of emergency exists.
They have no work, no money to buy food or no food at all. Why this government lacks vision or compassion towards its own people?
Why subject people to multiple ques?
Why harass people as if they are criminals?
Why no smooth change over was not planned?
It is nothing but election Propaganda without being able to bring back real black money.
People are fed up with high inflation & are unable to feed themselves, & now they have to suffer at the hands of politicians whims & fancies while real black money holders are the fund providers of politicians whom the government has not touched till now & won't in future as well.

    These queues are temporary.
If banks provide boxes and handle deposits offline then no rush.
Banks should give quick exchange for 1000/- whoever required. (once per day).

Government decision to scrap old bank notes is very good.
    Following changes should be made:-
    1. All deposits should be handled offline. Keep one box at every bank branch. Ask customers to fill deposit slip, passbook front page xerox and cash in a sealed cover and it. Mention customer mobile number. Do deposit offline.
    2. Revoke 2000/- rupees notes. No good. Maximum 500/- enough.
    3. Exchange limit 1000/- per day. No damage done.
    4. Withdrawal limit 10000/- per day and issue 100/- bundle and do it quickly.
    Problem solved.

We must get used to using Debit Cards and Mobile Transfers. When you have Temple feast, functions and celebrations, no one complains about waiting for food, travelling to distant places and abstaining from work. Those looking for reason to oppose the PM are busy in criticizing him with illogical arguments.
What ever be the case, everyone has to sacrifice in some way so that the country benefits.

An open letter written to the PM BY A common man.
    Worth reading :

Mr Narendra Modi, who the hell do you think you are??? Who has given you the rights of disrupting a common man's life like never before??? If your corrupt machinery can't find out black money, it's your problem. How a man on the street is concerned with that?? In fact we have such a parallel economy just because of your corrupt income tax department whose officers have amassed unprecedented amount of money. Why don't you go and first catch them?? Similarly politicians living in the very vicinity of your 7 Race course have unimaginable wealth. Why don't you go for their neck?? Same time your industrialist friends to whom you are so benevolent are the root cause of black money funding to all the political parties including your BJP. Why don't you penalize them?? Do you feel yourself to be valiant only by harassing and victimizing a common man?? Can the wizard in you imagine the chaos that the country is going to face from tomorrow?? Please don't blame people for violence, arson and looting out of their frustration. There will be citizens of India dying just because you want to gain some filthy political mileage. Who will be responsible for those tragedies?? Just answer me one thing Mr Modi, do I have to go to work tomorrow or take a leave and stand in endless lines waiting for my turn?? And what if I fail to make it to the bank counter or what if the cashier tells me that they've no more currency left?? And then what about the next day and then next and then further next?? Are you wanting to be some kind of a super hero or what?? The maid, the small vendor, the milkman, the auto wala, the teacher, the college going kid.... who's spared from your created chaos??? If you had so much of wisdom, Mr Wise, you could have introduced those new currency notes six months back and given everyone a chance to sustain his or her normal life. And then may be you had all the privilege to cancel old currency overnight. Though that is also questionable. Because how can you dishonour your own promise to honour a currency note signed by your very own RBI governor??? If you have problem of fake notes, create a machinery to filter that out. If you have problem of jehadi funding, make your intelligence more powerful. Which India penal code has allowed you to harass 1.25 billion people just because you have failed to fulfil your dreams??? And whoever says that black money is good?? That jehadi funding is in National interest?? That fake notes are acceptable?? But how at all on earth you can punish the entire nation for just some people's misbehavior?? Please take a note Mr Modi, today the nation was in shock. But for sure it is going to react from tomorrow. It's written on the walls. Well you can't see that is your problem. The nation has raised you to its helm. The very same nation won't think twice to throw you off your chair. Either rectify your doings at its quickest, or be ready to face the c

    What an idiotic comparison!!!
Poor people are made to give their life standing in Q just to satisfy the ulterior motive of BJP.
Why should 90% of population sacrifice their efforts to fake ideas hoping that black money held by remaining 10% will come out?
Why can't these 10% be made to suffer?
Just to cover them up common men like us have to take all this trouble?
Remember, the end result will not be super duper. Only a few careless fellows will be affected. Real black money holders will come out unharmed.

Not parties, people of this country are upset and they have a reason to be so.. No atm working, banks are either out of cash or are having long queues. Only poor and lower middle class suffering.. Black money in safe hands either in gold, real estate or in abroad banks.. Poor people are finding it difficult to eat in restaurants, travel, pay medical bills in private hospitals, etc.. Over top of it, 500, and 2000 new notes introduced.. what for? If at all such a decision had to be taken, proper arrangements should be in place.. Hope good sense prevails in our PM and make some announcement that can cheer the common man..

unfortunately common man in India gets carried away easily when any politician says that they have taken this step to curb black money.
Actual fact is this move is purely political with following motives.
To gain popularity at the cost of inconvenience to common man.
To corner the opposition parties who might have gathered cash for election expenses. (There is no guarantee that they will not find ways to still utilise this money)

    But real situationis:
No action to bring back money from Swiss bank because people involved are their own friends.
Simple logic says that total value of currency in 500 and 1000 Rs notes is over 90% of total currency. How can the govt expect the small value currency in circulation can support the day to day life?
Telling lies that ATMs are working does not help. How many of these politicians have stood in Q to get merge amount of 4000 from bank?
I am sure that the cash crunch will continue and even become worse in coming days, at least for a month.
Be prepared even to pay a premium to get change against 2000 Rs notes you get.
