Mangaluru, Nov 14: Even as people struggle to lay their hands on the new Rs 2,000 currency note, another incident of fake Rs 2,000 note was reported on Monday November 14, this time from Thokkottu.
A fisherman near Kallapu in Thokkottu here found that he had been cheated with a fake Rs 2,000 note.
The fisherman, identified as Mustafa from Ullal, sells fish in his tempo near Kallapu. On Monday afternoon, he had several customers, many of whom bought fish worth Rs 500 with Rs 2,000 notes and got the change in return. Mustafa accepted all the high currency notes without any problem.
However, in the evening when he was counting his collection for the day, he found that one of the Rs 2,000 notes was fake. The note had been printed from a colour printer, and moreover, the colour and design had faded as the note had come in contact with water.
With images of the new note easily available online, fake note racketeers have already begun duplicating and circulating the new currency notes. Another such case was recently reported from Chikkamagaluru.
Mustafa said that he would soon file a complaint with Ullal police.
