Our dream is cashless society, let's begin with less cash society: PM on Mann Ki Baat

NEW DELHI, Nov 26 (TNN) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the biggest public push for a 'cashless economy' on his monthly 'Mann ki Baat' radio address . He acknowledged that while a 'cashless' society is not immediately possible, and appealed to the people to work towards it by being part of a 'less-cash' society immediately.

"Learn how this digital economy works. Learn the different ways you can use your bank accounts and internet banking. Learn how to effectively use the apps of various banks on your phones. Learn how to run your business without cash," said PM Modi.

"Learn about card payments and other electronic modes of payment. Look at the malls and see how they functioning. A cashless economy is secure, it is clean. You have a leadership role to play in taking India towards an increasingly digital economy," he added.

Addressing the role the youth have in the transition to a 'cashless society', he said, "Your father or mother or elder brother at home may not know about these things. But you know how to book train tickets online, you know how to buy things online. You can tell not just your family members, but also small businesses the benefits of digital payments."

Thanking the people and the staff of banks and post offices for their patience in the face of inconvenience following the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 . He also cautioned those who generate and stash black money, referring to them as those 'refuse to change their ways'.

"The whole world is watching us, economists are continually attempting to measure the impact of the demonetisation and how it is being rolled out. We are such a massive nation, with 125 crore people. This is among the largest initiatives of demonetisation ever undertaken," said PM Modi.

He also appealed to the people to be patient in the face of inconvenience caused by the demonetisation. "If you remember, right at the time when I announced the demonetisation, I had said we would take about 50 days for normalcy return to all our lives and to economic activity," he said.

"There is enormous effort that's going into this. We have the support of the people . Lakhs of bank and post office employees are slogging to make this work. None of this would have been possible without all of your support. I thank you all," he added.

"I understand the inconvenience this has caused . But to treat a disease that has plagued our nation for 70 years , you can be assured the treatment cannot be simple."

First of all India is not 100% literate country to introduce cashless ecomony. literacy rate was 71.2% according to 2015 census. If anybody knows how to make their signature is considered as literate.

Moreover, India is agriculture based economy of 61% is in rural areas where electricity is not reached to all corners till now. No roads, no bridges and no healthy drinking water.

The World Bank estimates that India is one of the highest ranking countries in the world for the number of children suffering from malnutrition.

The “Global Nutrition Report 2016” once again demonstrates India’s slow overall progress in addressing chronic malnutrition, manifest in stunting (low weight for age), wasting (low weight for height), micronutrient deficiencies and over-weight. Our track record in reducing the proportion of undernourished children over the past decade has been modest at best, and lags what other countries with comparable socio-economic indicators have achieved.

Prior to overcome above issues, the concept of cash less society is big blunder.

In India 100% ministers are corrupt. All government employees are corrupt. Then what is the use of 100% from public where the money Go. Is there any planning for upliftment of poor people. Any planning for the basic nessacities of poor and backward or schedule cast people. Is there any planning in poor villagers basic needs. Gave bilians to other countries for their country development where in India thousands of people dying without food..

Them how he use so much tax from public..

I am in doubt that he will give this money to big industries to make industries outside the country like Adani which he gave 68 billian india money.

Demonetization is good because there 90% people business people are not paying tax.. but it dosent mean that All illiterate and poor people should live with cashless..

that means he wants to kill all poor and backward people and want to live with rich people paradise ..

Dream was to let the corporate crooks off the hooks of bad debts and enable the banks to give them more debts from the funds collected from households and that is achieved. Cashless economy? Sounds great. But it takes some basic educational level to understand the digital frauds/scams that are prevalent in today's world. Anyway for a person who neither have to pay cash nor 'cashless' or who doesn't have to deal with day to day hardships of a family man, it's very easy to engage in this half baked monologue called Man ki baath.

It is obvious that at the present scenario it will be very difficult to go for cashless economy, but if we take this initiative & work twds the same in the near future we can achieve it. Before starting criticizing u shd mention the demerits of the scheme if any.

Modi never said we should go for cashless economy from tomorrow, he said now we should try for less cash economy & latter we can go for complete cashless.

Just don't criticize the things blindly, please go through the things, understand it & come up with some constructive criticism, and be a part of Nation Building.

The disease that plagued our Nation 70 years back was cured step by step. We moved from a poor country to a developing country.Post Independence People had no food, clothing and shelter. As years rolled by the nation became self sufficient with the cooperation of the citizens, the implementation of the various Yojanas of the Govtto remove the cast barriers, bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, to make the Nation a holy land for the followers of all the relegions. This was possible besides oppostion by the miscreants. As the world moves on new sicknesses creep up and they need to be treated. The treatment may be simple or strong. But the cure will end along with the world. The ultimate curer is the creator.

Before adopting cash less society, PM should first visit each and every village other than visit foreign countries and implement theirs culture. Remember every Indian is against corruption, black money, corrupt politician.Present situation has made these things worse. 500,1000 has been replaced by 2000.Flow of cash into daily wage earners account. Is it a hard earned money. No.Then how do you baptise this money.Converting money from black to white is just like the senior citizen converts white hair to black(temporary in nature). How do you address a politician who has written off crores of bad debts.
