Mangalore, Jan 27: Finally 'the moment' has arrived. Konkani Nirantari, a 40-hour singing marathon emabarked on by Mandd Sobhaann in a bid to break the Guinness Record has now come to an end with great success. When the penaltimet group Kepechim Kirnam after a superb and stupendous show handed over the baton to the host, Mandd Sobhann, celebration and excitement could well be felt in the air. A sense of achievement, a feeling of contentment and height of confidence was all writ large on the faces of all those who have toiled day-in-and-day-out for long.
But there were a few who have slogged hard to realize this dream were concealing their feelings. Yes! Most of the members of the Mandd Sobhann troupe have been personally involved in this mammoth effort. But putting behind all their tiredness they were seen on the stage with broad smile to complete the 40-hour singing marathon. Mandd Sobhann has set its own standards in music. It was clearly evident from time they started their performance under the baton of Eric Ozario. The entire troupe consists of talented and hardworking individuals who have been working selflessly for the betterment of Konkani.
They were perhaps bolstered by the presence of Rony D'Cunha, perhaps one of the finest singers who has graced Konkani music world. He represented Kuwait in Konkani Nirantari. Mandd Sobhann's performance was quite inspiring and was well-accepted by sea of people who came in from all corners of Mangalore and even from Goa and Kerala. The group was supported by orthestra troupe comprising of Dilon D'Souza on keyboard, Roshan D'Souza on lead guitar, Derek D'Souza on bass guitar, Sachin Sequeira on drums and Damodar Kumble on tabla.
All in all it was superb performance which mesmerized the entire gathering. As the group wound up their performance sharp at 10 pm people appreciated them with thunderous applause acknowledging their mammoth effort of taking Konkani to the Guinness Book of World Records.....
All said and done, everything has gone on right track both for the organizers and also for participants. We have bettered the existing world record by 4 hours. But the official decision is yet awaited and a thousand pair of eyes are planted on Keith Pullin, the official adjudicator from the Guinness Book of World Records.

- Keep Fingers Crossed, says Keith
Mangalore, Jan 27: “You are now in a stage where you have won a partial Guinness World Record. Its partial as you will have to complete your 40 hours of singing, after which there will be a detailed analysis,” said Keith Pullin, chief adjudicator, Guinness Book of World Records. Speaking exclusively to Daijiworld, Pullin revealed that he had completed a part of analysis of the log book and maintained that so far that Nirantari had done extremely well and so far has found nothing that could keep the record away.”
So now all eyes will be on Pullin as he begins his analysis of the entire 40-hour singing marathon. If all goes well the record will be with Mandd Sobhann here to stay.

Call it coincidence or a matter of sheer luck; it was a group from Mumbai, precisely from Jeri Meri, which was performing when Mandd Sobhann achieved its dream of breaking the existing Guinness Record of longest singing in group. It is often said that Konkani speaking diaspora which is spread outside Mangalore which does more or takes more initiatives to preserve, promote and nurture mother tongue. So it might have been apt that it was not a group from Mangalore or around but a group from Mumbai which was performing. It will also be recorded in the annals of Konkani that it was a song on 'Blessed Mother Theresa' which was being sung when history was re-written. There were a total of 50 members were there in the group.

It was sharp at 6.20 pm that Madantyar took over from Jeri Meri in order to make it sure that record will remain in Mandd Sobhann's name for many more years. Mandd Sobhann's aim has not merely to stop once the existing record is broken but to continue for at least 4 more hours and set a daunting task in front of anyone who dreams of smashing it one day. Now Madantyar is enthralling the jam-packed Sunday audience at Kalaangann. Three more groups are left for the day. Now that the burden is lightened and tension relieved, one can be sure that there will be a lot of dance, jubilation and celebration when the remaining groups will come to the stage to perform.
Mangalore, Jan 27: History has been created today! Mandd Sobhann has done it! As the clock struck 6.01pm 'Konkani Nirantari' a singing marathon of multi singers broke the existing record of 36 hours in the name of 'Communidade Evangelica Luterana Sao Paulo' of Ulbra, Brazil.
A moment that words cannot express, the Jeri Meri's Team from Mumbai were the privileged ones to be singing as the marathon completed its 36 hours of non-stop singing.
Amid loud cheering and clapping of hands, the entire crowd which seemed charged up with this success rose to honour this moment.
Organized by Mandd Sobhann the attempt to beat the existing record of 36 hours set on July 3 and July 4 2004 by the Brazil group, reaped fruits.
Months of toil and hours of practice led over 1500 singers to achieve a non-stop singing achievement. Mandd Sobhann, which has broken the existing record, has decided to sing for another four hours. However, the creation of a new record has to be examined by the Guinness Book of World Records adjudicator Keith Pullin.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Pullin said that between 8pm and 9pm, he would be engaged in studying the log books and other requirements stated by the Guinness Book of World Records. And if found favourable and adhering to all norms, would declare it as a new record. However, he noted, that if there is any problem, the decision would be delayed.
But the confidence of the Konkani's has reached sky limits. Observing the manner in which the 36 hours were covered, keeping in mind the minutest of details, the Guinness, several feel, would have no problems, and would happily give it a clear 'YES'.
