Udupi, Jan 29: "Globalization has affected inter-personal relations in a big way," opined writer Sidhalinga Pattanashetty here on Monday January 28 at the inaugural ceremony of 'Muddanna Literary Festival' organized by the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College.
The festival is organised annually in memory of Kavi Muddanna. On this occasion V M Inamdar Vimarsha Prashasti was presented to scholar Kavita Rai.
According to Pattanashetty globalization was a ‘devil’ which offered many choices. "Because of globalization and profusion of mass media, children are now ageing at a faster pace. By watching television youth gathered the experience of youth and old age at a young age. As a result, they developed a more serious outlook towards life." he added.
Further Pattanashetty pointed out that globalization has resulted in making youth very ambitious. They become rich in a short span, and then end up loosing their enthusiasm by age forty. It is largely due to the impact of globalization that people say that they do not have time and it is a clear indication of their indecision.
He warned that if people did not protect their culture, literature and arts, it would be difficult for them to survive. Reading and writing offered a high degree of satisfaction, so people should get back to doing so. He concluded by saying that there is no age barrier with regard to getting interested in literature.
