Bangalore, Jan 29: Police have nabbed a person for having robbed Rs 6 lakh worth jewellery from women patients in various hospitals of the city in the guise of a doctor.
The accused Saleem alias Munna (37), a Class IV dropout, used to enter state-run hospitals, sporting doctor's coat and stethoscope around his neck.
After identifying his victims, waiting for diagnostic tests like X-ray and scanning, Saleem would volunteer to help them, Bangalore city police commissioner N Achuta Rao told a press conference.
Before taking the patients to laboratory, Saleem would ask the women to remove their jewellery and give it to him.
Minutes after the patients entered the laboratory, he would vanish from the scene.
Saleem had cheated nine women, Rao said, adding the jewellery taken away from them had been seized.
Saleem was convicted for similar offences between 1993-94 and was jailed for six years. After coming out of jail in 2000, he continued the same modus operandi to cheat patients.
