Mangalore: Canara College and ‘Manglurchim Motiyan’ Win Awards at Konkani Yuva Mahotsav

Mangalore, Feb 3: Canara College headed by Yathish Rao and ‘Manglurchim Motiyan’ headed by Sunil Moteiro bagged first prize in college and general category, respectively, at ‘Konkani Yuva Mahotsav’ competitions held at Kalaangann on Saturday, February 2.
The results were declared on Sunday, February 3 evening. Mangalore Institute of Fashion Technology (MIFT) and SDM College of Business Management bagged second and third prizes respectively, in college level.
Meanwhile, ‘Manoranjan Manglur’ and ‘Yuva Divo’ teams secured second and third prizes, respectively in general category.
Distributing the prizes, Jyo W Lobo, director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, said that India is one of the fastest developing countries in the world. Moreover, about 80 percent of people in India are earning less than Rs 100 per day. The gap between the rich and poor is also increasing constantly. The young and educated should strive to fill this gap to bring equality between the people of the country, he called for.
India’s growth rate was very slow till 1990. Later, the country has achieved tremendous growth in all the sectors. The youth should contribute their best to continue the same rate of growth. But the concept of ‘equality’ can’t be undermined, he opined.
Another chief guest, educationalist, Narendra Naik said that Konkani people have world wide recognition owing to their excellence in education and achievement in the musical and cultural fields. Konkani people should continue the same achievement, he urged.
Eric Ozario, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, in his introductory address, said that ‘Yuva Mahotsav’ will be organized in the coming years too, in association with Konkani Yuva Awaz and Maand Sobhaan.
Charan Mallya, Joyce Ozario and Prakash D’Souza were the jurors of these competitions. A total of 16 teams participated in this event.
Luvi Pinto, president of ‘Maand Sobhaan’, philanthropist, Ronald Colaco, Denis D’Silva of Konkani Yuva Awaz and HS Shivarudrappa, Academy registrar, were present on this occasion.
Roshan Castelino compered the programme. Santhosh D’Costa officiated prize distribution ceremony. Arun D’Souza Ajekar compered the programme.
