Oman, Jan 26: Pleasant weather, saw members in bright coloured sports jerseys at the grand opening of the maiden Oman Tuluver family sports meet 2017 under the leadership of Oman Tuluver.
The mega event was traditionally inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by K K Poonacha at Sidab Ahli Sports Complex. K K Poonacha who had a professional and illustrated hockey career both as player and coach had won many international and national awards also served as junior commissioned officer in the Indian army. He is Oman's national hockey coach at present.
In addition to appreciating other noted sports, business and community leaders of Tulunadu, he appreciated Oman Tuluver for organising this splendid sports event and encouraged people to prove their physical fitness and enhance the spirit of sportsmanship.
Noted dignitaries, Samir Parkar and Mujahid Kotawadekar, (ICC qualified and Oman League cricket umpires), G V Ramakrishna, Diwakar Shetty of Multitech Contracting, Riyaz Ahmed of SAH Properties, Ganesh Shetty of STS, Manjunath Nayak of STS, Srinivas Shriyan, Dileep Correa, Umesh Bantwal, Guru Prasad Amin and Kuttappa were also present and graced the occasion.
After the inaugural ceremony, Oman and Indian National Anthems were played before the oath taking ceremony of the captains and players to stay true to the spirit of the game.
Oman Tuluver family sports meet began with cricket and Volleyball and sports for both men and women as well as some fun-filled family games for all age groups.
Response to to this unique family sports meet at the Sidab Ahli Sports Complex was very good with the participation of many teams from around the Sultanate of Oman. Among 29 cricket teams and 22 volleyball teams, the 14 cricket teams that qualify for the second round to be held on January 27 are:
