Mangaluru, Jan 30: The tragic electrocution which happened at Gorigudda Ujjodi in the city on Sunday afternoon took away the lives of three, who happened to be the pillars of support for their respective families. Valerian Lobo, his wife, Hazmy Lobo, and a hotel worker residing near their home, Sandeep, son of Rukkayya Poojary from Moodbidri Maroor, had died after accidentally coming in contact with high tension power cables.

When the iron ladder on which Sandeep had gone up to collect pepper from a vine that had gone up around the trunk of a coconut tree, the ladder had slipped and fallen on high tension cables passing nearby. Both Sandeep and Valerian were charred to death, and their abdomen, hands, face, clothes etc were thoroughly burnt. Both the legs of hazmy, who rushed to the rescue of her husband and tried to save him by pulling at his legs, turned black due to burning. The locals had called fire brigade, police, and ambulance, after which the mortal remains were moved to Wenlock Hospital.
The bodies had to wait for an hour outside the mortuary at the Wenlock Hospital as the mortuary was found locked, and the staff were absent. The site witnessed emotional scenes as people close to the deceased who gathered at the spot were overwhelmed at the sight of charred remains of their close ones. MLA, J R Lobo, who came there, summoned the officials and directed them to get the needful done without delay.
Valerian worked as AC mechanic at New Mangalore Port Trust, while Sandeep, who belonged to Moodbidri and who was working at Hotel Guruprasad at Gorigudda since the last 15 years, was shouldering the responsibility of his entire family, it is learnt.
The couple who died in this incident have left behind two children. Their daughter, Nisha, studies M Pharma at Manipal, while son, Nikhil, is studying at Karunya University, Coimbatore.
As per information, funeral will be performed on Monday.
