Mangaluru, Feb 3: Two persons, who tried to commit suicide near Kaudoor, a five cents colony in Kandavar near Gurpur Kaikamba near Bajpe died later in the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Vedavati (60) and her brother, Shivappa (50), both locals.

When Shivappa's wife, who works at a government's hot meals programme for school children, came home on Thursday February 2 afternoon, she found that her husband and his sister were in serious condition, having consumed poison, in their under-construction house site. She also found an empty bottle of poison nearby. She immediately conveyed this information to locals, who rushed them to hospital, but both failed to respond to treatments and died at the hospital later, it is learnt.

Vedavati had started to live in the house of her brother, Shivappa, after her husband died some time back. Shivappa is survived by wife and four children.

As per the version given by Shivappa's wife, both Vedavati and Shivappa were suffering from a mental disorder and hence both would have decided to die together. Bajpe police have registered a case and begun investigation.
