Udupi, Feb 16: Dinakar Shetty of Herga Shettybettu ward and Indira Shekar of Kalmadi ward have been elected unanimously as president and vice president respectively, of the BJP ruled Udupi City Municipal Council.
Out of the 35 councillors of the CMC, 28 are from BJP, 6 from Congress and 1 independent. Addressing the gathering, newly-elected president Dinaker Shetty promised to give importance to implement programmes like drinking water, drainage system, street lights, safety of roads and making Udupi a clean and pollution free city.
In order to increase the financial resources of the CMC, he said: “we will give importance to the collection of taxes and utilise the same for the all round development of the city. We also assure a transparent and corruption free administration.”
President of the 3rd State Finance Commission A G Kodgi, former minister V S Acharya, former MLA K Raghupathi Bhatand others were present.
