Mangalore: Ganesh Hosabettu Likely to become City Mayor

Mangalore: Ganesh Hosabettu Likely to become City Mayor

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (KM/GA)

Mangalore, Feb 18: Ganesh Hosabettu has been suggested for the post of mayor of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) here.

His name was suggested at the meeting held at the party office on Saturday February 16 in the presence of party leaders. Accordingly if every thing goes on well, then, Thursday February 21 will be a red letter day in the annals of district BJP as it would be for the first time that BJP will be ruling Mangalore City Corporation.  Eversince City Corporation was formed, Congress has been at the helm and it was for the first time that it bit the dust in the MCC elections which were held in September 2007.

Meanwhile rumours are abuzz that district BJP is a divided house right now over the selection mayor.  Out of the 34 corporators, 21 were in favour of Naveenchandra.  But it is said that it was the influence and money power of one of former BJP MLAs which has worked out in favour of Ganesh Hosabettu who represents a ward in this former MLAs constituency.  One of the major issues that BJP corporators have against Ganesh is that he is not an original BJP worker.  He was in JD (S) earlier and had recently shifted his loyalty to BJP.  Since it is for the first time that BJP has wrested power in MCC, most of the party worker wanted one of the corporators who has been in the party right throughout.

Though they have given heed to the former MLAs voice, it is quite sure that from within, district BJP is a boiling cauldron.  All said and done, residents of the city are of the opinion that they have favoured BJP this time around, only with the intention of taking city to the developmental strides in the future.  So residents are hardly bothered as who is the mayor.  What they want is good governance and transparent administration from BJP.  If BJP fails in this regard, then surely residents will have no other alternative than turning these faces towards Congress as there is no strong third party in MCC.  So it is a golden opportunity to BJP to take city forward and rule the hearts of Mangaloreans.

I really wonder what these mayors do other than eating taxpayers money. They can't even make sure that Mangalore city has clean footpaths. Contractors don't even completely cover the dug-up footpaths making the poor pedestrians walk throgh those uneven footpaths.

Can anybody tell me what this Mayor's responsibilities? Other than showering praises, don't we have anything else to do? Can Ganesh hosabettu answer my questions? Why  there is so much ignorance in Mangalore?

Before the selection of the Mayor it is quite obvious to develop the friction for the selection of the leadership. What Mr.Ganesh Hosabettu requires at this time is full pledged support from his BJP party Corporators. All Corporators should not forget that the voters selected them for executing the promises they had given and especially for BJP for the clean enviornment and MCC administration. For BJP this is their chance to prove their ability. If not the people of Mangalore will never give them a chance again.

Ganesh is nice person. I iknow him very well. We look forward in his leadership. I congratulate who ever becomes the MCC mayor, but the peace and development of the region should not be compromised at any cost. Strong steps should be taken to ban all organisations creating enemity among citizens

I hope BJP will do better this time in governance of MCC. Whoever the Mayor that doesn't matter. Mayor alone can do nothing without the support of the party. I want BJP must unite together & show to Mangaloreans it's capability in transperent governance & development. BJP has the guts to make Mangalore City as Model City in India. Public will support if they do good job.
