Panaji: State to Draw Budget with Complete Public Participation

Panaji, Feb 18: Goa's finance minister Dayanand Narvekar on Monday February 18 said that in this financial year, the state will draw budget with complete public participation touching upon all the aspects required to uplift the life of common people.

"I invite all the citizens and NGOs to give their inputs which would be seriously considered before finalizing the budget," Narvekar told reporters on the sidelines of launching of a Goa government public sector undertaking website.

The finance minister said that all the stakeholders including Goa government offices, Goa Chamber of commerce and Industries (GCCI), NGOs and even the commonest of the people would be taken into confidence in finalizing the budget.
 
"There were certain schemes drawn during last budget which could not be implemented. The money was not spent. This time, we are cutting down on such schemes and instead people should come up with the idea of new schemes," Narvekar said.

Stating that the plan outlay of this year's budget would increase by Rs 300 crore, Narvekar said that the outlet will spiral upward from Rs 1,200 crore to Rs 1,500 crore.

Besides, the central government is chipping in with additional fund to the tune of Rs 2,200 crore for national highways and sports infrastructure for national games 2013 slated to be held in the state.

"We will have lot of money flowing in. It is a challenge for us to spend them on the projects without letting them go back," the finance minister said.
