Mangalore, Feb 18: Is reading habit vanishing in recent years owing to the advent of internet and audio-visual media? The city seems to deny such suppositions with the number of book exhibitions conducted in the city lately. The exhibition conducted by The Standard Literature Co (P) LTD at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here is another addition to the fact that the city has not lost its book-lovers.
The primary focus behind conducting the book exhibition is to cater to the thirst that the city populace has for knowledge and quest for information though the inseparable objective is business and making healthy profits by selling books, says S Ghosh, sales executive of the Standard Literature Co (P) LTD while speaking to Daijiworld correspondent.
The exhibition featured categories of books ranging from literature to science and technology. This correspondent was also told by the other sales executives of the Standard Literature Co (P) Ltd at the book fair that the exhibition was visited by a large number of people. The expectations of selling books were not shattered in the wake of the overwhelming response by the visitors. Since the exhibition will be open till February 21, an augment in sales could be expected in the days to come.
When asked about the books, Ghosh said no category of books was left untouched while they were selected for the exhibition. No book lover will be disappointed, instead he will be encouraged to buy given the incentives like concession and the facility to order for a book that is not on display and even get it home-delivered. Hence expectations of visitors will be fulfilled in all respects, he added.
The exhibition is very good, but it may prove costly to a segment of customers as most of important books sold here are in volumes. If the books are sold at cheaper rates, more number of people will find the exhibition useful, said J Pais, a visior while speaking to Daijiworld correspondent.
