Puttur, Feb 24: The "Founder’s Day - Holy Mass"  of St. Philomena College was organized here on Saturday, Feb 23, as part of it's golden jubilee cum valedictory function at the Antony Patrao Sabhangana - Francis Serrao Serrao Vedike.
 


On the occasion Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore city and president CBE was the main celebrant, and Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy, Bishop of Belthangady and Dr Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbar were present at the holy mass. 
 
At the valedictory function president of CBE, Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza presided over the function and Bishop of Gulbarga Dr Robert Miranda blessed the function.  Fr Gerald D’Souza, correspondent of the college welcomed the gathering. 
 


Speaking on the occasion Oscar Fernandes said "It is necessary to have some technical Institutes, as all students are not able to study in Universities and have higher education. In India every year one doctor comes out with a doctorate degree, whereas in China there will be ten coming out, this is where we are lacking. Hence, it is necessary to have technical institutes in the country which will eradicate employment," he added. 
 
The chief guests on the occasion were Union Labour minister Oscar Fernandes, Bangalore High Court judge - Justice A S Bopanna, chairman of National Administrative Reforms Commision (NARC) Veerappa Moily, MP D V Sadananda Gowda and IPS Prakash. Blossom Fernandes wife of Oscar Fernandes was also present on the occasion.
