Panaji, Mar 1: The family of 15-year-old British girl, whose body was found in semi-nude condition on North Goa's Anjuna beach have refused to accept the body demanding re-examination on it.
"There are clear ambiguities in the postmortem report which leads to the suspicion that she was murdered," Fiona Mackeown, mother of Scarlette Eden Keeling, stated.
Scarlette was found dead on south Anjuna beach in semi-nude condition on February 18. The police had maintained that the death was owing to drowning while her mother had suspected foul play in the entire episode.
Police sources confirmed that the body which was all set to be transported to Davon (UK) via Mumbai was kept back in mortuary after the family insisted the re-examination.
"Police are ignoring various evidences that point out that the death was not owing to drowning but she was assaulted and killed," Vikram Varma, a Supreme Court lawyer and close friend of Scarletter's family, stated.
The family members have now demanded that the body be reexamined as several facts which are reported in the postmortem are not considered seriously by the investigating agencies.
Varma said that postmortem report revealed that Scarlette's body had several bruises anti-mortem that means that she was brutally attacked before being put to death.
Incidently, the body was found above high tide line which means that she was not floating in the water, he added.
"There is a clear ambiguity in the case. If we piece together the circumstantial and corrobative evidences, it is clear that the death is a homicide," Varma said.
The postmortem clearly has confirmed bruises on her forehead, shin, ankle and hand has raised the suspicion that Scarlette was brutally assaulted and her head was hit on the wall and later in the sand which suffocated her.
As the mother of deceased and British high commissionerate are seriously pursuing the case, Goa police have asked the sub-ordinates to give detailed chronology of the events before and after the death.
"We are probing the case with all seriousness. We do not want any doubt to be left in the family's mind and if it is really a murder, we will not spare the accused," superintendent of police (north) Bosco George said.
